The Truth

Insomnia

Several exciting eventful days had past and we were now in Indiana and it was my time to drive, it was about 9 o'clock in the evening and I had decided that I would just keep driving till dawn cause I was excited to stop for another night. I thought it was a good time to call John.

"Hey John!" I said,

"Vanessa! Where ARE YOU!? YOUR MOTHER IS WORRIED SICK! WE ASKED YOUR SCHOOL EARLIER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO SCHOOL TOUR AND THAT YOU HAVEN'T BEEN SHOWING UP TO CLASS" He shouted.

"Nice to talk to you too and don't worry about my mother cause I'm gonna be meeting her in a few days!" I said excitedly, "Don't worry I explained on a note somewhere where I was If you two haven't seen it yet then you're thick! Plus don't bother calling anyone cause I'm legal I left and you can't do anything about it, I called to say goodbye cause I'll probably never speak or see you again" I beamed, before he could reply I shouted bye happily and hung up, blocking his number and Karens. I decided now that I was calling people I may as well call Chloe.

"Hey Bitch" I stated bluntly, what I usually said when we used to call each other,

"Vanessa?"

"That's me"

"Oh hey... I wanted to apologise..." She began.

"Oh thank God! Finally...."

"For the late birthday wishes"

"Are you messing with me!?" I asked seriously, feeling the rage build up inside me,

"Nah!" She laughed, "I'm so sorry Nessa, I was so caught up with myself that I didn't think about how you felt and I felt and feel like such a bitch!"

"It's alright and if I'm gonna be honest I missed you, for weeks I was hoping you'd apologise but I guess you decide now that I'm in Indiana would be the best moment " Laughed, she was shocked to hear I was in a state almost on the other side of the country, I explained my situation and she immediately offered to join but I knew education was extremely important to Chloe so I kindly rejected her offer explaining how I already had company. We talked for hours and hours till the sun rose she hung up because she needed sleep and in all honesty so did I. I woke Jake up who had been asleep for ages and asked him to drive, he looked at the time and agreed immediately,

"Put back the seat and get some sleep" He whispered, handing me a travel pillow.

I almost immediately drifted off to sleep and had another strange horrible dream.

We arrived in Maine three days later and Jake took my hand as we walked up to my birthmothers front door, she had a small cute houte in the center of the city with a cute garden out front. I slowly knocked on the door, my heart racing like crazy, the door opened and an old man stood there, I asked him about my mother but he continued to laugh, Jake got angry and began shouting and stomping around, "WHERE IS SHE!?" I cried.

"Congratulations, you've been catfished" He laughed, suddenly a camera crew appeared from hiding spots and they were all laughing, Jake quickly joined in while I sobbed in my hands, "She's so dumb!" I heard Karen and John giggle. My heart sunk, almost everyone I knew was standing and pointing laughing about me.

I ran, ran as fast as I possibly could but everywhere I went someone was laughing with a camera shoved in my face. I was done! I couldn't trust anyone full stop.

I bolted up right, sweat dripping off of me from everywhere It was just a dream! " Are you alright?" Jake asked concerned, pulling over the car to comfort me.

"Is this a good idea?" I asked shakily,

"If you want I will turn this car around and bring you straight home but I think it's better to find out more about yourself, you'll be thankful you did" He explained.

Tears stung my eyes, I hated every second of this! It was as if someone was slowly plucking away both my confidence and courage, my throat was dry and sore and all I wanted to do was sleep normally without a stupid nightmare scaring me to death. "I need sleep" I whispered with tears dipping on the car seat, "But every second is more painful then the next" I sobbed. Jake looked honestly worriedly and pulled something from the back seat.

"Don't ask, these will put you to sleep for a solid 8 hours, out cold no dreams... I use them for my insomnia but you need sleep and this is the best and only option, you'll be knocked out almost instantly" He explained taking out a pill and a bottle of water. "Please don't reject it or put up a fight because sleep is the best thing for you right now" He said.

"You have insomnia?" I asked confused taking the pill and bottle from him and thanking him,

"Long story short I witnessed something life changing when I was younger and ever since I've had problems with a lot of things, especially sleeping" He began but I was out cold before he could say anymore.

It was weird, I knew I was asleep and that I should be having a dream but I wasn't and for the first time in ages I was able to relax, I was asleep and happy all because of this stupid journey! Why couldn't she live in Texas or Utah, somewhere close enough. The feeling of being asleep and it being silent and relaxing was amazing but the one thing on my mind was what did Jake see that changed him?
