"Look sir, I was 16 when I gave birth to a set of twins and now 18 years later I'm told that they were never kept together, don't you think that is obsered!" She said in a weird voice, he nodded and began to speak.
"We have a mobile number for a legal guardian registered under the name Veronica but there's absolutely nothing we can do about... Vanessa, all we know is that she was a flight baby, put on a plane and flown to a different state" he explained finally giving us what we wanted, "but we are not obligated to hand that over seeming as in the name of law she is not your child, we give full permission to allow you to seek her out yourself but it's part of the rules" he smugged.
"Ok I'm gonna day this one more time... give me the number! You're basically implying that I, the birth mother is not allowed seek contact with my own children who are of age and obligated to speak to me!" She shouted,
"Yes that is what I mean" he began but I interrupted.
"How much do you want? I have loads"
"Now ma'am I do not accept money under the table!" He answers seeming offended,
"How much?"
"For the number 1 thousand! I have children to feed and this job doesn't pay well, for her current location I want 10" he whispered.
"Are you being ridiculous!?" Clara laughed, I told him that we'd be less than an hour and we were. Clara and Jake kept telling me it was a stupid idea but I wanted to find this sister of mine! I made a transaction from my personal account that Karen and John had no more control over, I had to sign a lot of papers to take out so much money. I rushed back to the hospital and handed Clara the money to make it look like she was the one who was paying. "That's all of it" I reassured him so he wouldn't have to count but of course he still did.
"Take out your phone and I'll give you the number, now if the number doesn't work I'll happily return 500 of the money but if it is I can keep it, a deal's a deal" he smiled beginning to read out the number as both of us took it down in our contacts. "It's been a pleasure dealing with both of you and have a nice day and good look" he said showing us out. Clara and I stood in some random hospital room and dialed the number off of my phone, we heard the beeps indicating that it was ringing.
"Hello?" A voice answered, my heart began racing, "Hello?" Clara obviously didn't know what to say so I took over,
"Hey is Veronica there?" I asked pretending to be one of her school friends or something.
"Not at the moment why?" She asked, "I'm her mother and who are you?"
"Oh silly me" I laughed sarcastically, "I'm Veronica's friend from school, I wanted to see if she wanted to hand out"
"Umm ok... do you not have her number" she questioned concerned,
"Oh em..." I began panicking, "no she must of given me this number by mistake... do you mind maybe sending her number so I could ring her?" Clara and I waited for what seemed like forever for her to answer.
"Yeah sure I'll send it to you just give me a moment" she answered unsure, she hung up and within seconds she texted me the number. Clara and I stayed silent,
"What should we do?" I asked nervously.
"I don't know, I mean you're her sister, would it be better off if you just spoke to her, not freak her out too much" she said,
"Yeah maybe" I answers awkwardly, she left the room, all I had to do now was get this over with. I shakily dialed the number, it dialed but she didn't answer, I tried again and but still no answer, "COME ON!" I shouted at the phone ringing her one last time.
"Hello?" I paused, I began to panic.
"Hi" I answered,
"Who is this?" She laughed, "Hello?"
Shit what do I do? "Ok um... hi I'm Vanessa" I said shakily,
"And?"
"Ok... im gonna say something that you 100% will not believe but it's important and you have to be completely by yourself and you have to promise not to hang up and also not to call me crazy ok?" I ordered hoping she'd comply.
"Who are you?... actually you know what? Fine! I'll listen, I'm by myself in my car, what do you want?"
"Ok so, you know you're adopted right?" I questioned hoping to receive a positive reply,
"Yes" she answered questionably.
"Ok and do you know anything about your birth mother?" I asked waiting patiently for her to answer,
"I mean a bit yeah, I know she was really young and that I'm from Kansas" she said slowly,
"Anything else?"
"No not really that's all my mom told me... who are you?" She asked again.
"I already told you I'm Vanessa, now what state do you live in, please I really need to know and before you ask I swear on my life I'm not a stalker and I have proof it's just I need to meet you superbad"
"I live in Florida..." she said,
"Ok... please don't call me crazy but I think we're sisters" I held my breath and closed my eyes waiting for her answer but all I heard was her laughing.
"Yeah right, if you were my sister I would know! My parents adopted my from a foster home, I lived there until I was 6 I think I'd know if you were there, I was one of the only kids that didn't have any siblings" she laughed some more,
"Yeah and I was flown on a plane over to California and was literally adopted in an airport" I paused going back on our conversation "wait... you weren't adopted until you were 6!?" I asked shocked, for some reason I felt a burst of guilt, I know just from seeing kids in melody hills back in California that living in a foster home must be shit.
"Do you have FaceTime?" I asked knowing how stalkerish I just sounded,
"Yeah but I'm not calling you, for all I know you could be a serial killer.
"Yeah I mean I could be but I'm not, I'll give you my socials if you wanna double check" I said giving her my twitter and Instagram. She took a minute or two to check,
"Are you famous?"
"No" I laughed "Why?"
"You have over 20 thousand followers! Are they fake?" She stated on a serious note as if she was asking me about life or death.
"No... so do you believe me? I don't have many pictures of myself on twitter and I'm pretty sure my Instagram is private" I said bluntly,
"Screw it, fine but I'm not showing my face first"
Before I knew it I was receiving a FaceTime call from her number, I shakily answered and waited for the call to connect, too scared to show my face. "Show your face so I know you're not a serial killer" she laughed. I nervously faced the camera towards me. "Holy shit" was all I heard before you the call ended. What!? That was not part of the deal! I tried ringing her again but there was no answer, I tried more and more times but she was ignoring me!
(Sorry about the delay, I wrote it in a really cringy way so I rewrote this part, thanks for reading<3)
