The next morning, I woke up with sweat covering my brow.  I was lying facing the room and Harry had his arm secured firmly around my waist. I’d gotten used to him snoring since I’d been sleeping with him for so long, but this morning he was extra loud. I wiggled out from underneath his grasp and got out of bed. The late morning sunlight was shining through our windows and it shone half on the bed. I pulled on my clothes and walked downstairs.

I made my way into the kitchen and I went through at least ten different cabinets trying to find the cups. When I did, I poured myself a glass of orange juice and stood at the island with my hands on the counter. I took a deep breath. I felt weird.

My eyelids drooped a little bit but I forced them open again. I should’ve stayed in bed. I stared at my glass of juice in front of me and I just put it back in the fridge. I didn’t think it would sit well in my stomach this morning.

I exhaled and my breath came out uneven. I turned around and leaned back on the counter. I waited a little bit, just thinking to myself about nothing in particular, until I heard a familiar set of footsteps coming down the stairs.

I wanted to duck and hide behind the counter but that would be weird. I didn’t turn around though. I took another deep breath and Harry stepped into the kitchen. He went to the fridge and found my glass of orange juice. He looked at me, but I was staring into space. He took it out of the fridge and put his hands on the counter next to me, facing the opposite way.

            “Morning,” I said.

He nodded, “Morning lovely,” he said in his tired morning voice.

            “Tired?” I asked.

            “Mmm…”

I swallowed and turned to face the same way as him. I didn’t know what to say now. He looked at me. “Are you okay?”

I looked him in the eyes, not saying anything at first. I tried to feel every part of my body. My stomach felt a little sick, but nothing major. I was about to nod when I felt something come up on me. My eyes widened and I sprinted for the bathroom that was inconveniently placed on the opposite side of the main floor. I got there just in time. I slammed the door shut after me; I didn’t want Harry in here with me.  However, he walked in a minute later and kneeled down next to me.

“Maya…” he said pulling my hair out of my face. I handed him my hair tie and he pulled my hair back for me.

“You can leave, I’ll be fine.”

            “No Maya, I’m staying.”

I closed my eyes. I think I was done getting sick. I leaned up against the bathtub and brought my knees to my chest. I tried taking deep breaths through my nose and out my mouth. Harry kneeled in front of me and took my hands in his.

“We were safe, I promise you.”

I nodded and closed my eyes again. We sat in there for probably another two hours. Once I was feeling better, Harry pulled me into his lap and rocked me slowly back and forth. He sang quietly to me. I smiled weakly and put my head on his collarbone.

            “It’ll be okay,” he whispered.

            “I know…”
