I woke up a couple hours later to a doctor walking in the room.
“Shoot, I’m sorry,” I said not realizing it was Doctor Cartwright.
“No, its okay, I’m going to allow you to sleep with your wife,” he said with a smile. I tried to return it, but I just looked at Maya. She still looked broken, but peaceful at the same time.
“Maya… before, she was trying to wake up. Four of her fingers moved and she was trying to open her eyes… but she just couldn’t.”
Doctor Cartwright nodded while checking the machines. He checked her breathing with his stethoscope and he found her pulse.
“No one believes me, but…”
“Harry, I do believe you,” he said.
I nodded and pulled some hair out of her face. Doctor Cartwright looked at his watch. “Well, surprisingly I have some time to spare,” he said down in the chair next to Maya’s bed, “But only a couple minutes. I might as well just stay here.”
“Okay…” I whispered, “Maya’s getting better right?”
“Much better actually. She should be waking up one of these days…”
I smiled, “You hear that Maya? You’re going to wake up soon…” Her body stayed still.
“When did the two of you get married?”
“Around a month ago,” I replied smiling and taking her left hand. Her ring was still on her finger. I rubbed the back of her hand and smiled again.
“Did you go anywhere for your honeymoon?” he asked casually.
“Mmhmm, we went to mine and the band’s beach house in England. We had a great time. Right Maya?” I asked gently pulling another strand of her hair behind her ear.
“That sounds nice… I can tell you love her Harry, you’re very lucky.”
I bit my bottom lip, “I remember the first day I met her… I think of it every single day…”
“Hmm…” Doctor Cartwright hummed.
“I moved into the apartment next to hers and she came over… I fell in love when I laid eyes on her. I’d never met anyone else like Maya… She was just amazing. Absolutely amazing. I knew there wasn’t going to be anyone else who I was going to fall in love with. Maya was the only one for me. I finally asked her to be my girlfriend after a couple months of knowing her, even though we both knew we were in love. I asked her in front of thousands of fans and then… yeah,” I smiled at Maya and I felt myself crying again. It was a happy cry. “I didn’t know I could fall so in love with a girl… But she’s not just any girl… She’s Maya. My wife who I love to death. I can’t live without her…”
Doctor Cartwright didn’t say anything right away. He only continued staring into space, thinking of what he was going to say. He stood up.
“Harry, you don’t see two people so in love like you and Maya are every day. Maybe it’s even a once in a lifetime you find two people like you two. I’ll say it again Harry, you are one of the luckiest guys I’ve ever met.”
