Will.
When Elizabeth leaves the room discreetly, Caroline begins another attack against her.
"Elizabeth Bennet is one of those girls who thinks that tearing down other girls will make her look better in front of guys. I it's a nasty thing to do."
"Of course it is. Many girls do whatever they can to get a man's attention." I sigh, hoping Caroline understands that I'm referring to her - in that she's always dressing to impress, flirting, pretending to be something she isn't.. "But I don't think Elizabeth said what she said to gain captivation. I think she was just saying what was on her mind." At this, Caroline is silenced.
An hour or so later, Elizabeth returns to update us on Jane.
"Should we take her to hospital?" Charlie asks, jumping up.
"No, no. My mother is a nurse so I called her. She says Jane caught a chill and she needs to drink lots of liquids and get a lot of rest. But other than that she should be recovered in a day or two."
"Is she sleeping?" He asks.
"She's just settling down at the moment. I'll be fine to sleep in her room tonight and make sure she's alright."
"I'll go and check on Jane now. Can someone find Elizabeth some clothes and blankets?" Charlie speaks as he crosses the room. I notice Caroline and Louisa haven't even noticed Elizabeth has joined the room, and Henry is sleeping, so I follow Charlie's request.
Elizabeth tugs on the sleeves of her jumper as I walk over to the door and open it for her. Charlie's footsteps echo through the house as he rushes up stairs to Jane.
"I just need a blanket - I'd get it myself but I wouldn't know where to look." Elizabeth says softly, her big eyes staring down at her feet as I walk beside her through the house and upstairs.
"You need a change of clothes too." I say. "You can't sleep in jeans. Besides, no offence, but they need a wash." I open the airing cupboard door where I know Charlie's family keeps blankets and towels. I hear Elizabeth chuckle at my words and she sticks out a leg, admiring the dirt splash up it.
"What are you insinuating? That my clothes aren't clean enough for you?" She says as I retrieve a blanket from the top shelf, knowing she couldn't reach it.
When I pull it down and hold it out to her I begin to stutter my defense: "N-no. They're uh-"
"Relax. I'm joking." She admits, a smile spreading across her face. I shake my head whilst laughing lightly as she retrieves the blanket from me. "But honestly, I'm fine sleeping in this. I can't expect Charlie to offer everything to me. He's already given Jane and I too much."
"I'm sure he'd be more irritated if you left mud stains on the blanket than if you borrowed some clothes." I point out, and she scrunches her face up - making me smile.
"Shoot. You're right." She admits, chewing her lip. "Thanks for the blanket. I'll go and ask him now." She turns around and disappears into Jane's room. I head into my own when I spot the others coming up stairs to retire.
Elizabeth's point of view.
I step out of the shower, finding a T-shirt and pair of shorts out side of the bathroom. I step into them before I head downstairs to where Charlie told me I'd fine the washing machine. I place my clothes in it and turn it on before I go back up stairs. At the top of the stairs, I'm met by Will, who has found me pillow.
"Thanks, Will." I say. I'm surprised to find him acting so kindly to me this evening. But I'm well aware of the fact that he has been drinking beer all night, as have the others been. He isn't drunk, but I imagine he's pleasantly tipsy. I turn and enter the spare room I'll be sharing with Jane. Charlie gets up from sitting beside the single bed and smiles at me.
