The next day, I find myself standing at the bottom of the stairs in Catherine's house awaiting her descent. Charlotte, Colin, Finn, Will, Harry and Isabel all stand waiting with me. I chat with Isabel, having since learnt her name and discovered her to be nice - well - nicer than Catherine anyway.
Catherine appears at the top of the stairs and begins walking down. She wears a flowing with flipflops. I look down at my and wonder if I should have dressed differently. We are going to the beach, but it's windy and still quite cold.
"Well don't just stand there, the others are on their way already!" She says. I grab my bag from the floor and toss it over my shoulder. I didn't know we were meeting others there. This day just gets better and better. I trundle outside and follow behind Charlotte before a hand touches my shoulder. My eyes flick up to Will's face and I hear Catherine's laugh.
"Elizabeth babe, Will's car is this way." She sings, walking with Finn over to the black BMW.
"I thought I was riding with Charlotte and Colin?" I ask as Will practically leads me over to his expensive looking car.
"Catherine wants you with us." He tells me, opening the door to the backseat for me.
From over the top of the roof of the car, Catherine says: "We haven't had a good chance at getting to know each other so I thought we could use this as the perfect opportunity." She smiles and climbs into the front passenger seat. Will closes the door behind me once I'm sat down and climbs into the drivers seat. He still never told me why he's repeating his last high school year.
Finn slides into the other back seat beside me and smiles at me. Why do I feel like I'm about to be interrogated? Will glides us out of the driveway and onto the road behind Colin's car.
"So how's sixth form?" Catherine asks me from the mirror she's holding in front of her face. She rubs some kind of lip balm across her mouth.
"Sixth form? I'm in my last year of high school." I tell her. She turns around in her seat and stares at me like I'm some kind of freak. "I thought you knew. Charlotte and I are in the same year group."
"Really?" She asks and looks at Will, who looks at me in the rear-view mirror. "You never told me, Will." He doesn't comment. "You seem older."
"Thanks?" I ask. Finn chuckles from beside me.
She turns around. "You two have been getting on quite well, haven't you?" She says almost suggestively.
"Sorry, who?" I ask.
"You two in the back, of course." She giggles, brushing Will's hand where it sits on the gear-stick between them. He snaps it away and places it on the steering wheel.
I look at Finn, who's face holds a crooked and humorous smile. "Well she's not bad for a toddler, is she?"
"Toddler? Who are you calling toddler!" I laugh, lightly hitting his arm. "I'm barely a year younger than you!"
"We're here." Will's stern voice breaks our giggles and I look up to the rear view mirror to find him staring at me with furrowed brows.
It turns out Will's definition of 'here' is actually about ten minutes away from the destination. I spend the rest of the journey being quietly questioned by Catherine. Anytime Finn speaks Will seems to drive into one of the many potholes in the road. They should really get those fixed.
Once we finally reach the beach, I jump out of the car and pat myself on the back for wearing normal clothes. The wind throws my hair up and around my face, I manage to force it behind my ears, which is more than Catherine can do. Unfortunately for her, she has to choose between holding her dress down, or fighting the mess of hair on her head. She goes with the former.
