After Beth and Lydia leave, I go and change into the fresh they brought me. I wouldn't have personally chose this outfit just for staying over someone's house, but Beth is always concerned about fashion wherever I am. When I return to the lounge, Will is writing a letter, Caroline is sitting on the sofa in front of his desk and Charlie is in another room playing a video game with Henry. I assume Louisa is up with Jane for now.
I settle down beside Caroline on the sofa and begin to sew up Jane's ripped jeans since Beth bought her some spare clothes too. I amuse myself by listening to Caroline. It seemed every second, she'd comment on Will's handwriting, or on his sister's wellbeing, or on wanting to be included in the letter to her. The unconcern she's returned with from Will makes for an interesting listen.
"It's nice you send her letters instead of texting. It keeps you closer to have handwritten letters when you don't see much of eachother anymore." She says.
He makes no answer.
"You write really quickly." She adds.
"Nope. Prettly slowly actually." He replies.
"I hate writing and sending letters. I can never really be bothered to put them in the post."
"It's lucky I'm the one sending them then."
"Tell your sister we should meet for a coffee soon."
"I've already told her, you asked earlier."
"Is your pen running out?" She asks. "Let me fix it for you."
"I've got a spare."
"How do you write so nicely?"
He stays silent.
When Will finishes his letter and everyone returns to the room, Charlie sighs happily.
"How about a tune on the piano? Any takers?" He says. Caroline immediately springs up and heads to the instrument.
"I'd love to hear you play again Elizabeth." Will says. I look over at him with a confused expression and find a barely noticeable smirk on his face. He's playing with me because he remembers from the party that I'm not a fan of singing and playing the piano in front of people - not without being forced.
I jut my jaw out before sending him a sarcastic smile with the words: "No, thank you. I'm interested in hearing Caroline's skills." We have a staring match across the room until Caroline starts playing. I get up and walk over to the piano, looking over the music books tossed over it's top.
I can't help but notice Will's eyes follow me across the room and stay on me whilst I look over the music. It both irritates me and makes me feel embarrassed at the same time. I try to ignore him. Knowing he's still trying to intimidate me. I really don't like him. Especially after last night when we argued over where I slept. We'd already had a bickering match this morning just after Beth had visited, I didn't want to start another now.
Will.
I find myself somehow outside and walking around with Caroline when she begins to irritate me again.
"So have you planned the wedding yet?" She asks.
"What?" I hiss.
"Your's and Eliza's wedding. Oh I'm so sure you'll be a happy couple. You already argue like one." As Caroline talks, I grit my teeth. "I hope you hint at Beth that she should hold her tongue at the event. And make sure your sister-in-law isn't flirting with all the men in the audience. You'll have to train your wife to stop being so conceitedly independent too, or it'll look like she's the one wearing the trousers in the marriage."
