It's Saturday night and I've barely been at Margo's house for an hour before she springs the idea of a party on me.
"You've been moping around all week. I'm posing an intervention through the means of alcohol and attractive Grammar school boys." She says. I had wondered why she had invited me over last minute.
"I don't need an intervention! I'm fine." I laugh.
"You keep saying it, but everyone's noticed that you've been a little more subdued than usual. And even though I don't see you as much as I did in high school, I still know you well enough to know that when something's getting you down, you'll refuse to tell anyone what's up and the only cure is a night out." She says. I've missed Margo, and Edward. They both went to grammar school for sixth form but we still meet up randomly throughout the year.
"You know me so well." I chuckle. "But really, I'm fine and I don't want to go to a party." I genuinely am okay. I guess I still feel sort of ignorantly stupid about the whole thing with Will and George but I'm not sad about it. I suppose my pride has been wounded.
"Whatever.." Margo says doubtingly. "Sad or not sad, I've been invited to this party and you can either come with me and Eddie or you can stay here in a slump."
"Margo?! Why didn't you tell me you were going! Why would you invite me over without mentioning the crucial fact that you won't be here!"
"Because I knew you wouldn't come if I mentioned it. I hate to break it to you but you're coming to this party whether you like it or not because I'm your lift home." She's smug and crosses her arms.
"Are you serious? Who's party even is it? I have nothing to wear!" I groan and throw myself backwards onto her bed.
"You won't know her. She's in the year below you I think. She actually goes to a boarding school now but someone decided to throw her a surprise party with all of the people from her old school.
"Oh that's nice. Surely I can't go though because I never went to the grammar scho-"
"Don't worry. Plus ones allowed. Big house."
"But I have nothing to wea-"
"I have a skirt you can wear with that top." Margo smiles a knowing smile. I realise she's had this whole thing planned out obviously for a while.
I begrudgingly traipse up the long driveway behind Margo and Edward (who we picked up along the way). I shiver a tiny bit. If only she'd let me wear my cardigan over my
The house we arrive at is huge. Almost like a stately home. It looks beautiful, with poison ivy curling up one of the exterior walls I can tell it's old. The name above the door is elegantly written, stating the word Pemberley. I wonder to myself what it means. Margo knocks on the door but quickly realises the chance of anyone hearing it over the sound of the music is slim to none. She opens the door and we go inside.
"I'm just going to find the birthday girl if you could go grab us some drinks." She shouts into my ear. I nod. Knowing it would be awkward saying happy birthday to someone I've never met. "And if you see a face that takes your fancy, don't hurry back." She winks at me and I roll my eyes. I wander through the enormous house until I eventually find a kitchen. Here, I fill three cups with some pink liquid. My phone buzzes in my pocket.
I'm going out again so I'm leaving the key under the mat. Lydz xx
My sister has been going out pretty frequently lately. Part of me worries about her whereabouts, but she always come home before her curfew of eleven so I know whatever she gets up too isn't too wild. I am curious as to why she's so secretive about it all though.
