Elizabeth.
The day after the party begins with a study session at my house. My friends and I's books and papers lay scattered across my coffee table alongside a bowl of grapes.
Despite the mounds of homework and unfinished tests that sit before us, we've been ignoring it since everyone got here - finding it impossible to work when my younger sister is obnoxiously hanging around us with her friend Kitty. We can't help but earwig into their conversation about how they're so excited for football season to start so they can go and watch the jocks at school play.
"Lizzy, you know I hate to say it, but your sister is ridiculous." Nick whispers to Jane, Beth and I.
"She's just young and excited. We've all been there." Beth replies, popping a grape in her mouth.
"But they're obsessive!" He argues, "They don't even realise that all the jocks in our school are dicks."
"Nick! They're not that bad." Jane defends. I laugh.
"Come on Jane, even you can admit that they don't respect anyone other than themselves." He continues, but gains no reply as Jane's phone abruptly rings, forcing her to get up and answer it outside.
"Who could be calling her, her parents went with yours right?" She asks. I nod. Jane and I's parents have been friends since before we were born. Which is probably why we're such good friends because we've been raised like sisters practically. In fact, she lives about ten houses down my street, which proves how close we are in the literal sense. Our parents have gone on a long-weekend trip together, leaving Jane to stay round my house, along with Nick and Beth.
After a short while, Jane returns to the living room with a very wide grin spread across her face. "Charlie just called to invite me over! He said he's cooking lunch for everyone and wanted to know if I'd go."
"That's so cute! You have to go!" Beth squeals, making me and Nick laugh.
A quarter of an hour later and we're all watchingcycle away on her blue bicycle despite the fact the roads are still wet from yesterday's storm. Unfortunately, Beth forced her to cycle in the hopes that Charlie would walk her home. Only time will tell to see if he will or not.
Pretty soon it begins to rain and I hope she arrives at the house soon. At mine, we entertain on the ideas of what she'll get up to whilst she's there.
"You know what, neither of your parents are here. She could just stay the night and seal the deal with Charlio." Beth jokes, nudging me and Nick.
"Do you even know Jane?" I ask whilst laughing. That's the least likely scenario to occur. By 1 O'clock, the rain outside has stopped and the day appears sunny and bright. I'm just getting up to get a glass of water when my phone buzzes. I check it, finding a text from Jane herself:
Lizzy you have to come here right now. I fell off my bike on the way up the driveway and Charlie had to come out and help me inside. I've never been so embarrassed. He's got me laying in the spare bed upstairs because I twisted my ankle. It's so embarrassing. Pls come! I need you to explain to him I'm fine! He won't even let me stand up on my own.
Oh god are you okay? I'll come over if you really want me to. I reply to her, pulling on knowing that she'll say yes. Jane is very awkward about denying people (ie Charlie telling her to stay in bed). In all honesty, I rather fancy a walk anyway. Walking is one of the things I take real pleasure out of, especially if it's somewhere new.
I know Charlie doesn't live near me, but I know all of the public footpaths, so I'll still be able to reach his house fairly quickly.
Before I leave, Beth and Nick ensure me they will watch over Lydia and Kitty. They were staying over tonight anyway so they're happy because they can spend some together as a couple.
