Adopted by Drew Drechsel

Chapter 1

*charlotte POV*
I wake up to loud knocking on the door. I get out of bed and push my chair over to the door. I stand on it and grab the handle and open the door. Standing there is Malcolm. I scream, shut the door, and lock it.
"Charlotte Mae open that d*** door this instant" he yells
"Malcolm Jenkins watch your language. Especially when you are talking to a three year old" Gloria yells
I hear grumbling the footsteps walking away. I then hear quiet ones approaching. I rush over to the door and climb on the chair. I unlock the door and open it seeing Gloria. I hug her and she picks me up. I bury my head in her neck.
"Charlotte dear I promise one day you'll get adopted. Then you can get away from here" she says
"Everyone but you hates me" I say
"I know and I'm sorry. Now go downstairs and eat breakfast" she says
I nod and she sets me down. Now you may be wondering why I have to use that chair to reach the door and that's because I'm small. I'm only three years old. I'm only 2 ft 8 in. Less than average height for my age according to the doctor. I go downstairs and grab my food and sit in my lonely corner like always. I eat then go outside. I put my shoes on from the front porch and start walking down the sidewalk. They never care when I walk off. They only care when I come back. Malcolm hates it and Gloria always makes sure I'm not hurt. I usually walk around until 7 or 8 at night depending on the day. Sometimes later. I walk my usual way till I see something different. They're setting up for something. I find a gap in the gate and go through it. I go up to someone and tap on their leg. They turn around and I see it's Jamie Rahn. He looks down and sees me. He smiles and crouches down to my level.
"Hey sweetheart. What's your name" he asks
"Ch-charlotte. What's going on here" I ask
"They're building the course for tonight's runs. The Cleveland city finals for American Ninja Warrior" he says
"Really! I love that show" I say
"Who's your favorite" he ask
"Drew" I say
"You seemed like a Drechsel fan" he says
"Really" I say
"Yeah" he says
He stands up and picks me up as he does that.
"How old are you" he asks
"Three" I say
"Really? I thought you were 4" he says
"No only three. Can't you tell? I'm very small" I say
"Yeah but you talk very well" he says
"Oh" I say
"Where are your parents" he asks
"I don't know. I don't have any. They didn't want me anymore" I say
"Really? How would you like to go out for lunch with me and some other ninjas" he asks
"Am I allowed" I ask
"Of course" he says
"Ok" I say
He starts walking still carrying me. He goes to a vehicle and puts me in the back and gets in front.
*Jamie POV*
Once I get her in the car I shut the door and get in my seat. I pull my phone out and open my group chat.
(J-Jamie, D-Drew, JM-James McGrath, A-Allyssa, Jo- joe Moravsky)
J-hey on my way. Just leaving the course now. Was seeing how the set up was going. Bringing a guest
Jo-alright. I have a table for us all
JM-Allyssa and I just pulled in
A-I was going to send that
JM-I bet you to it
D-I'm on my way.
J-did you forget your keys again
D-no. Jon Alexis and I were playing each other in basketball
Jo-you lost I'm guessing
D-yeah
J-hey stop texting so I can drive safely
I put my phone down in the cup holder and start the car. I drive off and soon arrive at the restaurant. I look in my rear view mirror and she's sound asleep. I park the car and get out. I open the back door and carefully pick her up not waking her. I close the door and readjust her. I wrap her legs around my stomach and her arms around my neck. I go in and find the others.
"Hey Jamie. Who's the little girl" Joe asks
"This is Charlotte. She's three and an orphan. She was looking at them building the course and asked me what they were doing. I invited her to lunch" I say
"She's adorable" Allyssa says
I sit down and place Charlotte sitting sideways on my lap.
"How old is she again" Drew asks
"Three. She told me that her parents didn't want her" I say
"Well is she a fan of ANW" James asks
"Yeah. Drew is her favorite" I say
"I could of guessed that" Joe says
We order food. And I order a kids meal for Charlotte as well.
"You should find a way to bring her to the city finals tomorrow night" Allyssa says
"Yeah." James agrees
"I'll see what I can do" I say
The food arrives and Charlotte is still asleep.
"How do you wake up a sleeping child" I ask
"Here. Pass her here" drew says
I pass her over to him and he allows her arms to wrap around his neck he gently rubs her back and whispers quietly into her ear. She slowly wakes up and rubs her eyes. She looks up at who's holding her and smiles.
"You're d-drew Drechsel" she says
"Yeah. And you're Charlotte" He says
"How did you know" she asks
"Lucky guess" he says
He passes her back over to me and she smiles at me. I turn her back around so she is facing everyone and she covers her face.
"Are you shy" I ask
"No" she says
"Then take you hands off your face and say hi to everyone" I say
She moves her hands and waves. They all wave back.
"I got you some chicken nuggets and fries" I say
She nods and starts eating I grab my fork and start eating my food. When we're all done lunch we stand up and go to the door.
"Jamie" Charlotte asks
"Yeah" I ask
"Are you going to take me back? I don't wanna go back" she says
"Not right now I'm not. We're gonna go to the park" I say
"Yeah. And they all come" she asks
"Why don't you ask them" I say
"Please come to the park" she says
"Ok" Allyssa says
"I'm in" James says
"Same" joe says
Drew takes Charlotte from me and puts her on his shoulders and runs off in the direction of the park. Us four take off after him.
*Drew POV*
As I'm listening to Jamie talk about Charlotte I instantly felt bad for her. Then once I heard that I was her favorite I knew I had to do something. We just got to the park and the others haven't caught up yet.
"What first" I ask
"Monkey bars" she says
I go over to the monkey bars and help her up. She grabs a hold and I hold onto her waist. She goes across then lets go.
"How was it" she asks
"Very good. Let me guess you want to be an American ninja warrior when you grow older" I ask
"Yeah" she says
I see the others walk in and I run over to them with Charlotte in my arms still.
"Hey Charlotte you wanna see something" I ask
"Yeah" she says
I pass her over to Allyssa and go back over to the monkey bars. I grab in and go to the middle. I get onto of the monkey bars and flip off them landing on my feet.
"I wanna go up there" she says
"I don't know. You might get hurt" I say
"Please. Can I please go up there" she asks
"You may go up but only if drew is up there with you and you're only sitting there" Joe says
I get up on the monkey bars and get on top of them. I sit down and Allyssa passes her up to me. I set her down next to me and keep my arm around her. All the other ninjas get up as well and Jamie sits on the other side of Charlotte. Charlotte yawns and blinks her eyes.
"Someone is tired" I say
"No" she yawns
"I think yes" Jamie says
"Don't take me back yet" she says
"Don't worry. We weren't going to" James says
He hops down and walks over to us. I pass Charlotte over to him and he holds her on his hip. Rocking a bit. We all hop down and walk back to the restaurant.
"She can go with us. We'll meet you all at the hotel" James says
"Ok" Jamie says
I get in my and go over to where they are setting up the course. From there I then drive around till I find the closest orphanage. I park my car out front and get out. I go up to the door and knock. A guy who smells like smoke and alcohol opens the door.
"What do you want" he grumbles
"I'd like to adopt someone" I say
"Come in" he says
I walk in and he slams the door.
"Do you know who you want to adopt" he asks
"Yes. A three year old. Her name is Charlotte" I say
"Gloria" he yells, "the Terri is getting adopted!"
After a little bit a lady shows up.
"I can talk to you about it in the office" she says
I nod and follow her. We get to a room and go in. She sits behind the desk and I sit in front of it.
"Sorry about Malcolm. He likes all the other kids." She says
"It's alright" I say
"Now you want to adopt Charlotte is that correct" she says
"Yes" I say
"Ok. Well I'm not exactly sure where she is" she says
"I do. She's with my friends. One of my friends met her. Introduced us to her and I decided that I was going to adopt her" I say
"Alright so then you just need to sign some papers and get her stuff" she says
She passes me papers and a pen and I start reading through them and signing them. Once dine she takes me to a room. I walk in and there isn't much in there. I find her small suitcase and pack the little bit she has in it. I go back downstairs and before I leave the Gloria lady gives me a folder I thank her and go out to my car. I put the suitcase in the trunk and the folder on the front seat. I drive to the hotel and get out when I arrive. I go in the hotel and up to the second floor. I go to my room which is share with Joe and knock. A few seconds later it opens. I go in and he closes the door.
"What took you so long to get here" Joe asks
"I had to stop somewhere. Are the others all in their rooms" I ask
"Yeah. Jamie has Charlotte in his room since he's sleeping by himself." Joe says
"Ok well we're gonna have a late night and early morning tomorrow so I'm gonna hit the hay" I say
"I'm going to do the same" he says
I go to the bathroom and change into comfort clothes then get in bed. Once joe also is in bed I turn the lights off and fall asleep.
