"Baby, let the games begin.
Are you ready for it?"
-Ready For It, Taylor Swift
~~~"Graduation," Ava whispered breathlessly as the girls stood on the field, watching the staff and some students set up the stage and chairs for graduation.
Their eyes roamed around the playing field where the football team usually plays their games but it was now only disclosed to those graduating.
"I can't believe we are here." She said. "God, we'll be standing on that stage in less than a day."
"Yeah, and you'll be making a speech on that stage." Cassie reminded and Ava's face returned back to the nervous state it was on the day she found out she was Valedictorian of the Year.
It wasn't surprising, out of all their friends and the seniors, Ava was a golden girl despite the fact that she got in trouble a couple times. Everyone loved her and she had a close to clean record.
"Oh God, don't remind me." She groaned and her friends laughed. Isla slung an arm over her shoulder, bringing Ava close to her side as they walked back to the carpark.
"Don't worry, we'll be right there to support you when you fall on the stage." She said with a mocking smile and Ava rolled her eyes and shoved Isla away.
"Speaking of support," Ava turned her attention to Cassie, who was in a slight day dream. "Have you told Scott?"
Cassie snapped out of her daze when she noticed Ava's eyes staring at her. "What?"
"Have you told Scott about the offer on New York?" Ava repeated, unlocking her car. The girls slipped in, waiting for Cassie's reply.
"No," She answered a moment later and Isla glared at her disappointingly.
"Why not?"
"There isn't a right time." Was her reply.
"You need to tell him before Graduation." Ava chided in.
"I know. And I will." Cassie looked out the window, distracting herself with the cars that drove beside them. "In time."
Ava and Isla became silent, knowing there's little they could do. They shared a look with each other, both praying for the same thing. Cassie didn't notice this but moments later when she didn't hear a reply, she caught them sending her a worried glance in the rearview mirror.
She was worried too.
Graduation.
She didn't know that she'd actually be here, wearing a red graduation gown and cap, about to make her way to the stage. For the last three years, she never actually saw her future, she was too blinded by the betrayal and hurt that now it seemed unreal to even get a future.
But she was here. Standing besides Scott and her friends, her Dad a couple seats away with the rest of the parents and friends. Scott held her hand tightly, squeezing it when her name was called out by the Headmaster.
She inhaled as her friends cheered her on, trying to remind herself not to trip. She smiled slightly as she made her way onto the stairs, shaking the Headmaster's hand and some other people's before smiling brightly out into the crowd where people cheered her name then making her way down the stairs.
