when phil heard the door shut, he looked up from where he was sitting on the rose pink couch. luna jumped up to beg for attention at dan's feet.

"hey," phil said, smiling at dan and searching his face.

dan smiled back meekly, not looking upset per-say, but definitely tired and a bit anxious. his eyes seemed dark and like he was sleep walking.

"hi," he said back, his voice soft. he was standing strangely, pressing his feet together as if he was a china doll. "could i maybe use your computer?"

phil nodded, looking down at his laptop and clicking out of a few things, killing a few tabs before looking back up and grinning, patting the spot next to him. he stood up, leaving the device there.

"thank you." dan sighed gratefully. phil was curious, christ, he was so curious, but he didn't ask what dan needed to do. he just watched him sit, pulling the computer into his lap.

recognizing he was dismissed, he retreated to his room.

after a few hours, he peeked his head out. dan didn't seem to have moved from his spot, his eyes glued to the glowing screen.

phil decided not to bother him, sighing and sneaking past to the kitchen to grab some food.

it went like this, pretty late into the night, until he looked in the living room again to tell dan to go to sleep, but he wasn't there.

unable to help himself, he snuck down the hall, peering into dan's dark room through his open door.

in the blackness, phil could just barely make out dan's silhouette, with a small fuzzy body laying on his stomach. dan scratched at her ear, and phil could hear a soft purring noise.

"i'm so screwed, luna," a soft electric voice came from the bed, and phil bit his lip. he felt bad. it wasn't any of his business, but that didn't keep him from wanting to help.

he went to bed.

in the morning, dan was nowhere to be seen. he wasn't even home, and the thought crossed phil's mind that maybe he was a vision. maybe he had disappeared in the night, never to be seen again.

but that was silly, so phil called eliza while he made coffee.

"h-hello?" she answered, her voice giving away that she had been laughing when phil had called.

"hey," he said slowly, suspicious. he frowned in the direction of his favorite mug that had cats on it. "have you seen dan? he's not around, i'm a bit worried."

there was a pause, and phil could hear giggling that was clearly attempted to be covered up, and a hissed "shh! shut up!"

"uh, yeah. he's here. don't worry about it."

"oh."

something in phil ached, and he pressed his lips together. something about dan, his roommate, disappearing to hang out with eliza, his best friend, without telling him, felt wrong. felt painful.
