I had been running nonstop for hours as I tried to forget the pack house and everyone with it, but memories of Jovano just kept randomly popping up in my head, making me want to run back to him even though I couldn't.
I had just left him when my grandmother gave me the warning without even seeing his face, but I knew if I told him goodbye he would never let me go. No food, water or clothes, just myself to keep me going.
Tired, hungry and depressed were just a few words to describe how I was feeling. My feet were sore from all the running, especially since I was running barefooted in a forest while holding my shoes in my hand.
Shifting into my wolf was out of the question for now in case someone had spotted me. From all the stories my grandmother had told me about her wolf, I'm sure anyone would be able to spot our wolf without a second glance.
Deciding I was far enough from him to take a break, I finally stopped as my feet rejoiced. Looking at my feet, I was surprised to see that there weren't any scratches except for the dirt that was stuck in between my toes.
Sighing, I run my fingers through my sweaty and greasy hair as I sat down on a smooth rock to catch my breath and figure out my life from here.
There was no place that I could go and if any wolf found me, their first thought would be to kill me because I was identified as a rogue. I couldn't go back to my father because Alpha Malik would be waiting for me and there was no way I could go back to Jovano.
"Are you happy now! Do you love seeing me suffer!" I yelled up at the darkening sky wondering if the Moon Goddess could hear me. "Why did you create me if all you are going to do is send danger my way and break my heart!"
Knowing that nothing was going to happen and I was just wasting my energy, I decided that I had enough rest to keep on going because it was going to be nighttime really soon. Even time was against me now.
Walking at a quick pace, the sounds of the nocturnal creatures filled the forest as they came out as I ignored them.
After a good amount of time, I saw a small fenced backyard garden and the back of a small, beautiful cottage that looked like it belonged in a fairytale with all the gorgeous flowers that surrounded it.
Debating on whether or not to knock on the door, I hurriedly made up my mind to do so when I saw the once blue sky almost dark. Gathering up the courage, I made my way to the front before knocking on the door.
I waited for a few minutes and was about to walk away when the door opened to reveal a drop dead gorgeous man. He had shoulder length, dirty blonde, wavy hair and stunning hazel eyes that captivated her. His jawbone was just perfection as his hair beautifully framed his face.
"Good day, may I help you?" He asked in a deep and husky voice as I tried to focus and not drool over the beauty standing in front of me.
"I was wondering if you would be kind enough to offer me shelter for the night?" I asked, feeling as if I could trust him although we had just met. "I promise I will leave first thing in the morning," I added quickly, as his hazel eyes looked me over.
"Sure thing, besides the woods can be a dangerous place at night," he said, while flashing me a breathtaking smile as he opened the door and allowed me to enter. I flashed him a smile of my own before I entered into the cottage as he shut the door behind us.
It was warm and cozy inside with not much furniture but it had a homey feeling to it. I felt calm and relaxed as I looked around and admired the wooden furniture that was beautifully carved.
"The name's Ashanti and you?" He questioned, as he went to get a cup from the cupboard and poured himself from tea from the kettle.
"Alejandra," I responded, as I went and took a seat at the round table as he poured another cup of tea and placed it in front of me.
"Beautiful name. It's herb tea and it should help warm you up," he said, as he took a long sip from his cup before looking at me. I was wondering whether or not to drink the tea, but I figured if it was poison that my death would not be so bad right now, so I took a large sip.
The tea had a minty flavour and was sweet as it instantly warmed me up. Blowing it a little bit to cool it, I finished my cup before thanking him for the tea and for welcoming me into his home, because I was basically a stranger.
"Oh it's no big deal. I would feel terrible to just leave you out there all alone at night," he smiled as he finished drinking up his tea before taking both our cups and washing them.
"I haven't cleaned up the guest room so you will have to sleep on the couch," he said, as he turned to face me.
"I don't mind, I'm just lucky to have run into a kind person as yourself," I smiled, as I went towards the couch as he disappeared up stairs before coming back with a blanket and two pillows.
He neatly placed the pillows onto the couch and handed me the blanket as I wrapped it around myself. Something about him had just caught my attention and was somehow calling me to him and I didn't know what it was.
"You have really beautiful eyes," I commented, before I could stop myself as he chuckled.
"Thank you and you do to," he replied, before he walked away leaving me alone with my thoughts as I got in a comfortable position.
For the first time in a long time, I felt as if my luck was changing. Hopefully it will remain that way.
