Luke's P.O.V.

I was running patrols when I felt it. The panic, loss of breath, the fear. It wasn't mine. I stood there confused until someone whispered in the air the answer I searched for.

"The Luna," they whispered.

Lynne. It was Lynne. Something was wrong. I dropped my clothes out of my mouth, not caring, and took off in the direction that just felt so right.

I pushed my fur covered feet to carry me faster. I came upon a scene I didn't expect to ever see.

I had hired Chase because he was respected among the pack and very strong. I thought I could trust him with my mate, obviously not.

I bolted forward biting into his back leg causing him to fall in his weaker human form and drop my screaming mate.

I watched her scramble away and I dealt with Chase quickly and swiftly.

No one hurts my mate. NO ONE!

I walked over to her and nuzzled my head into her lap whimpering softly. I almost failed her.

Lynne's P.O.V.

I watched as he snapped Chase's neck but knew it wasn't over. Chase wasn't a full wolf nor was he gone. He was still breathing just barely.

I patted Luke's soft head gently, still in shock.

I knew for now they would leave us alone, afraid of meeting a death so cold and quick. But I didn't care. I hated them. All of them.

I sighed a small relief as Luke had shifted before my eyes and picked me up bridal style carrying me to the pack house and to his room, laying me down.

"Ugh. I have a headache and my body hurts," I groaned out softly. "And if you don't get some clothes on I'm gonna jump you right here."

He chuckled and put on a pair of boxers, leaving his gorgeous abs uncovered as he crawled onto the bed beside me. "Baby are you ok? I'm so sorry I wasn't there earlier and that I even hired him. I had no clue," he whispered as he held me close.

I yawned softly and smiled. "It's ok love. I'm fine. Just don't leave me alone for right no."

I slowly fell asleep in his arms.
