I walk closer to the rock, our rock. I sit down next to Gale. Me and him hunt together, and always come here to take a break. It became our spot after a while.

"Please don't call me gorgeous. First my mom, then Prim, now you. It's getting on my nerves." Gale smiles.

"Aw, you know I can't help it." He pokes my nose with his finger causing me to laugh. Then he cups my face and I look deeply into his eyes. That's all it takes, and his lips are all mine.

Suddenly, everything is pushed away, and it's only Gale and I. No Selection, no miserable family, no Panem. Nothing. Just me, Gale, and our lips mushed together.

I reach my hands up to his dark hair and tangle them in it, feeling his soft locks. We break apart, I can't help but smile.

"Sorry I'm not in a better mood today, we just got this notice in the mail..." I trail off, and I can tell he knows what I'm talking about.

"Ah, yes. The letter." I nod. Gale studies my face, like he always does when he's speaking. Like he's putting it in his memory, so when we have to leave, he'll remember what I look like. We always get anxious when we don't see each other for more then a few days, and it's been a week.

Gale, by far, is the best looking guy in District Twelve. He has dark hair and grey eyes like me. He's thinner, and taller, but not too much of either. He's wearing a t-shirt, jeans, and hunting boots, which is his usual outfit. If I can't handle being away from his for a week, then what am I going to do if I have to be away from him in a palace for months, or even over a year?

I sit with my back to him, as he plays with my hair.

"How do you feel about The Selection?" I ask.

"Okay, I guess. Poor guy has gotta get someone somehow." I can hear the sarcasm in his voice.

"Gale."

"Okay, okay. Well, part of me thinks it's kinda sad. I mean, does the prince not date? Does he really have to host a contest to get somebody?" I nod. "But, part of me thinks it's kinda cool. He gets to fall in love in front of everyone, and then he gets his happily ever after. Makes me think I'll get my happily ever after someday too." I hear Gale's stomach growl.

"Oh, hey, I brought us a snack," I say, grabbing my knapsack.

"Oh yeah?" He tries to not sound excited, but I can tell he is.

"Yeah. I have some strawberries I picked, and some rabbit." I reply handing him a few strawberries and ripping a chunk of rabbit out of the tinfoil it's wrapped in.

We eat in silence, I let Gale have most of the rabbit and strawberries.

"Mmm.. You're a good cook. You're going to make someone very fat and happy someday." I laugh.

"You! I'm going to make you very fat and happy!" I poke his stomach.

"Ah, to be fat!"

We laughed and talked for a while before he asked me another question that I hate answering.

"Katniss, are you joining The Selection?" He asks. I shake my head profusely.

"No! Of course not! I don't even want you to consider that I would go and marry some stranger, I love you."

"You want to stay here? Always hungry? Always worried?" I understand what he's asking. Would you rather go live in a palace with people always at your feet, or live in a small house in a poor district.

"We have our hunting, and don't worry. We'll make it through, Gale." I will for this to be true. For us to live a happily ever after, just like he had said earlier.
