"I'm really sorry." Lucas said to Carvington. It was early in the morning and they were standing in the hallway.

"You don't need to apologize." Carvington said.

"I just feel so bad about it. Then yesterday you were in the hospital."

"Yeah, do you know a Mackenzie? " Carvington asked.

"Yeah, she's in your gym class."

"Wait. How do you know that? You're not in my gym class." Carvington said. A short girl with black hair came up to Carvington with her friend.

"Are you Carvington?" she asked.

"Of course he is. I'd recognize that face anywhere." Her friend said.

"How do you know me?" Carvington asked. The girls giggled and walked away. "That Mackenzie girl said I could sit with her."

"Are you?"

"I don't know. She thinks you're the reason I don't have a girlfriend."

"That's because I am the reason."

"No you're not. Are you okay?"

"What?"

"After Jessica's brother punched you. Were you okay?"

"Yeah,"

"Do you want to go to the library after school?"

"No,"

"Lucas Tathern doesn't want to go to the library. Are you sure you're okay?" Carvington asked.

"I just have this feeling that something's going to happen today, I just don't know what." Lucas said. "Jessica told me she saw your uncle. Maybe I can come over your house."

"No!" Carvington shouted. "You can't come over."

"Why not?"

"That's a good question. A very good question," Carvington said. Then the bell rang. "I'll have to answer that later."

It was lunch time. Lucas walked into the noisy room, and saw Mackenzie sitting next to Carvington. There were four empty chairs at their table. Lucas walked up to the table and pulled out a seat. Mackenzie put her pink converse on the chair.

"What do you think you're doing?" Mackenzie asked.

"Sitting down," Lucas said.

"Not here of course. These seats are already taken." Mackenzie said.

"I don't see anyone, or anything saving their spot."

"I'm saving their spot." Mackenzie said. Lucas put his bag on the table. "That it! I tried to be nice." She said as she stood up.

"What's going here?" Mr.Rodricson, the principle, asked. He was an average sized man in his early forties. He was bald and wore glasses.

"Mr.R, this guy is harassing me." Mackenzie said sweetly.

"I'm not harassing you; I'm just trying to sit next to my friend." Lucas said.

"My friends are sitting here, and no matter how many times I tell him he keeps trying to sit here." Mackenzie explained.

"Go to another table." Mr.Rodricson said.

"Fine," Lucas said as he picked up his stuff.

"Later, dork," Mackenzie mouthed to Lucas behind Mr. Rodricson.

"Did you just- I'm staying." Lucas said as he sat down.

"Mr. Tathern," Mr. Rodricson said.

"What? Didn't you see that?" Lucas said.

"Go to the office now."Mr. Rodricson said.

"Mr. Rodricson, I don't think that's necessary."Carvington said as he stood up.

"This isn't your problem."

"But," Carvington said, and then he cringed.

"Are you-"Mackenzie started, and then he collapsed. Mackenzie rushed next to him. A crowd started to form around him. "He's not breathing."

"Someone get the nurse." Mr. Rodricson said.

Mackenzie started performing CPR. She pressed against his chest. She tilted back his head, pinched his nose and came close to his mouth.

Carvington woke up with a start. "Did I die again?" He asked.

"No you didn't die. Thanks to me." Mackenzie said proudly. Everyone started cheering.

"What do you mean by again?" A guy from the crowd asked.

"Long, complicated, big crowd need air." Carvington said.

"Everyone, go back to your seats." Mr. Rodricson instructed. Everyone ran back to their seats and sat down. "I'm going to call your parents so they can pick you up."

"No! Please don't." Carvington said. "I'm fine."

"Follow me to the office." Mr. Rodricson said.

"I don't want to go home." Carvington said as he stood.

"Are you sure?" A man said. He had brown hair and dark brown eyes. He was wearing a blue long sleeve shirt and blue jeans.

"I recognize you." Mr. Rodricson said.

"I'm the new science teacher." The man said. "I can help persuade him."

"I don't know." Mr. Rodricson said.

"I've done this many times before. It's a walk in the park." The man said. Mr. Rodricson nodded. The man smiled and whispered something in Carvington's ear. He took a step back and rolled back his sleeve. He showed him a tattoo on his forearm.

A look of hatred fell onto Carvington's face. Lucas grabbed his arm. "Let me go, Lucas." Carvington said through clenched teeth.

"I'm not going to let you get yourself expelled." Lucas said.

"You should listen to your friend." The science teacher said.

"I should-"

"What?"The teacher said. "You can't control your emotions over something so small."

"Fine, I'll go home, but if I you do anything to-"Carvington stopped himself. "Just don't push my buttons and I won't push yours." Lucas let go of Carvington's arm.

"Don't trust him." Carvington said to Lucas before he left.

Lucas turned around and saw Mackenzie sitting down in her seat. "Are you going to get your stuff?" Mackenzie said as she motioned towards Lucas's lunch.

"Fine," Lucas said as he picked up the bag. "I didn't even want to sit here anyways."
