Carvington opened his eyes. He was lying down. He sat up and looked around the room. The walls were an off white and the thin sheet on top of him was white. He saw a window. There was another bed in the room that was empty. There was a light green curtain on the wall in between the space of Carvington's bed and the other bed.

The brown door creaked opened and Carvington watched the door to see who was there. A man with a white coat came in. He had brown hair and blue eyes. He was 5'9". Carvington push himself further as he got closer.

"I know," the man said in a deep voice. Carvington's eyes widened. He couldn't know.

"Know what?" Carvington asked, but he already knew.

"I removed your tail." The doctor said.

"What? A tail? You must be confused, why would I have a tail." Carvington said as he began to sweat.

"Because you're a jorn," the man stated as he smiled at him.

"You're from my planet?" Carvington asked as he started to relax. The man nodded still smiling. "What are you?" The man stopped smiling and looked down.

"Do you know why you're in the hospital?" The man asked. Carvington shook his head. "Your friends took you here. They said you passed out."

"Thank you for helping me." Carvington said.

"It was the least I could do. Being sent her against your will must have been hard." The man said as he looked at him. "My partner and I are your replacements."

"Everyone looked so sorry for me after Maconn made me leave." He said as he looked down.

"It wasn't right what he did to you. No one deserves that." The man said.

"I had to be sent here. I was being selfish my not wanting to go." Carvington said with a sigh of regret.

"You weren't selfish." The man said.

"You don't know me." Carvington said looking down.

"But I knew your mother." The man said. Carvington looked at him. "She's a wonderful person. She sees the good in people when no one else does."

"How did you know my mother?" He asked.

"I was hungry and I was looking for someone to eat," The man started. Carvington sat up became hostile.

"You and your kind are monsters." Carvington said.

"I don't eat jorn and humans anymore. I changed when I came here. It was a rough start, but now I'm able to control my hunger."

"Why should I trust you?"

"Your mother did." He said. "I had no home, no family. My own people turned their backs on me. I hadn't eaten for three weeks when I met your mother. She wasn't afraid of me. She didn't run away. She didn't beg me to spare her life like the others did. I had stopped to stare at her. I wondered 'Why'. Then she said 'Are you going to kill me?'. I was so hungry. So I pinned her down. You don't want to do this were the words she said as she was on the ground. I didn't want to kill her. She was the only one who understood me. Not even my parent had understood me. They gave me away when I was five. I loved the family that I had, but they didn't accept me. Then when I was six my father died and my family had changed. Your mother was my friend, she accepted me. I hope that we can be friends too."

"What do you mean by your people turned their backs on you?" Carvington asked.

"Three months after my father died, they tried to take me back to my biological parents. They didn't want me. So they left me in the middle of the woods. I went to an orphanage and never got adopted. When I was old enough I left and got a home of my own. I remember when it had been a month under the rule of the new king. He came to my neighborhood and came inside my home. He asked me if I had any food and I said it's all I had left."
