A Bloody Melody

Chapter Four

As soon as my foot entered the portal an extremely odd sensation flowed throughout my entire body. My mind fogged and I swayed from side to side, before I could stop myself the rest of my body swam forwards. It felt like I was floating on nothing for a moment and my mind started to panic. What's happening?

It started to pass and the next thing I know my feet are on solid ground. I was about to release a grateful sigh when I noticed I was looking in to the barrel of a gun. I didn't get a chance to revel in the fact that I'm on a new planet, instead my mind focused in on one point and one point only, the fact that a bullet could pierce my brain at any moment. I stared at the bright, silver metal of a small handgun. It looked ancient, at least a couple of hundred years old, but I know not to underestimate it. It will be equally as deadly.

A scream tore itself from my throat and terror consumed me. I don't think about what I'm doing I just jump back. The portal disappeared and I fell to the ground, landing on my butt. My duffle flew from my hands and I heard it land somewhere off to my left. I didn't turn to find it, the only thing I could look at is the gun that was still pointed at me and I couldn't help but start to wonder why they haven't shot me yet.

I plucked up some courage and managed to stutter, "Please... don't shoot."

The gun clattered to the ground and I finally blow out the breath I'd been holding in since I stepped through the portal. I stared at the person in front of me; she was very pretty young woman with dark skin and hair to match. She had the hand that had been holding the gun pressed against her mouth, with shock written all over her face.

I looked away from her and noticed that we were kind of outside in some sort of platform/shallow cave made of rocks. The only thing that I didn't see was my family and I started to worry, where were they? I was seconds behind them. I could feel tears starting to form in my eyes but I tried to push them back, crying wouldn't help anyone right now.

"Oh my God," the lady whispered, letting her hand drop to her side.

She just stood there for a minute, staring at me. I didn't know what to what to do so I just stayed silent and unmoving until she snapped out of whatever daze she was in. An emotion that I can't read came over her and then she started to laugh. It's so sudden that I was sure if I wasn't already on the ground I would have toppled over.

She shouted back to someone, "Jenna, Jenna get your ass up here right now! You're not going to believe this."

I sat shaken on the floor, still unsure of what to think of this woman. Was she part of Deacon? Had I somehow landed myself on a different planet? Where was everyone else? All the people that had gone through the portal before me, where are they? What about the people that hadn't come through yet?

Another woman appeared from a pathway I could just see the beginning of. She looked different to the other lady, older, maybe sterner and tougher with fair skin and light brown hair. She didn't see me as she stopped just at the edge of the platform and asked, "What?"

Her voice was gruff and I flinched at the sound of it, on the other hand the other lady was still all smiles as she pointed to me. "Look who is it? Can you believe it? It's her."

The brunette turned and looked in my direction; I was still sprawled out on the dirty floor. Her face soon has the same emotions the other lady's had on it, mainly shock. The only thing that didn't come was the happiness; instead she stood there for a second and said in an accusing tone, "You."

I started to stutter again and stupidly point at myself while doing so. "M-m-me."

She stormed up to me, her face getting redder and redder. "What's your name?"
