Chapter 12 - "Birthday Boy"

I woke with a jolt, I don't know why. I knew when that I moved in my sleep when I didn't feel good, but I usually I realise when I move. My head was there my feet were, my hand was on someone's shoulder and someone was holding my leg. Not everyone was asleep though, I noticed Riker and Marianne had moved.

They must have gone to check out where we would be heading. I awkwardly removed my leg from someone's grasp and crept out of the sleeping pile. Though sounds of shuffling and snoring filled the room, but my stomach matched all the sounds. It grumbled so loud I thought I might have woken the others, I needed food.

I walked the length of the room, though it was dark the room had a glow to it. There was shuffling behind me. I turned to find Rebecca waking up. She kicked Ratliff in the head by accident.

"I'm up!" He said immediately jumping to his feet, he looked around confused. I couldn't help but laugh, I watched Rebecca as she turned to her side. She seemed to be looking for someone....Riker. I walked over and helped them both up.

"Are you ok?" I asked even though I knew enough to know what's wrong. Yesterday wasn't just a simple glance. There was something going on, I think she likes Riker....

She was about to reply when snoring filled the room, it made me jump more than it should have. Rydel turned in her sleep, hitting Rocky with her foot, who whacked Ross who then, tapped Nina. It was funny to watch but I had to figure stuff with Rebecca.

Too much emotion had been spread for all of us in the past hours, everything was getting too much. Rebecca then looked behind me as Marianne and Riker came back in holding each other, hand in hand. Whispering to each other. I saw a flash of rage/ jealousy in Rebecca's eyes.

"Oh my gosh" I felt my mouth drop open, i looked at Ellington on my right who had the same amused expression as me. Rebecca still glared at the happy pair now kissing in the corner. I took her by the arm and dragged her out to the ledge again.

"Where ya going?" Questioned Ratliff, I thought for a second...

"Girl talk!" I said before turning and climbing thought the ledge, he still followed.

"Really? What's wrong with both of you?" Asked Rebecca as we regain balance on the ledge. I gave Ratliff a really expression.

"I know why she wants to talk and since I will come into it one way or another I might as well know what she's saying" he gestured to me, I rolled my eyes jokely and began my questioning. He stood watching over Rebecca's shoulder.

"Let's cut to the chase......you like Riker" I whispered just loud enough for her to hear. She immediately blushed. It was true I didn't need her answer.

"Rebecca that moment you had you can't trust that.......he is happy with Marianne. You literally just saw them together" I was trying my hardest to help both my friends.

"But Alex I felt something, the atmosphere between us changed and I swear he felt it too" at that moment everything went silent. Riker yanked a Marianne through the hole in the cave laughing away. I walked back into Ratliff...

I looked to Rebecca, then back to Ratliff who returned my awkward glance. 'What should we do' I mouthed. Everyone stood staring from each other. I didn't need his help.

"Guess who's 21!" A put my hand on his shoulder, he smirked at his feet. The mood automatically brightened and soon we shared a group hug, giving congrats. Rebecca was first to leave, ducking out as soon as she could. Then went Riker and Marianne.

I was about to follow, but I stopped thinking back to yesterday night......

"Erm.........you know yesterday night" I was stopped

"Yeah because it's everyday I spend my nights in a cave" he said sarcastically, I smiled but I had to continue.

"Well.......I heard you talking, about someone and-" his face changed and he seemed nervous,

"How much did you hear?! I thought everyone was asleep..." He sounded panicked and said the last part under his breath. He put his hands behind his head.

"Nothing really, I heard you start to talk about someone but then....I fell asleep" his face calmed. I stared at him and he stared back. He was hiding something...

"That's fine.....it was nothing, it's fine" he ended. I nodded, it didn't matter, he stepped forward.

I was gonna ask more, but I decided not to.I headed out crawling through the gap, but I was stopped.

"Wait..." I looked back, he hesitated and stopped.

I brushed past and smiled "Come on birthday boy I'm sure the others wanna see you" he smirked and we rejoined the others.
