Power is Domination, Control and therefore a very selective form of Truth, which is a lie.
–Wole Soyinka
This was torture; him looking into my eyes, while I was unable to do anything else than looking back at him.
Every second he could strike, all I did was waiting for my death. The seconds passed and I was still standing there. Every time he moved, I was expecting something.
I watched him, keeping my gaze focused on his eyes even though it made me sick. But I also didn't want to stare at his scars, in fear it would anger him further. On the outside he seemed calm, but I sensed his anger.
Suddenly he closed his eyes. His massive chest heaved when he took a deep breath.
Even though he stood there completely unguarded, blind, attack was useless, his other senses were more than alive. In a fast movement his eyes snapped open again and something flashed inside those blue depths. I couldn't determine it. It was almost as if there had been an actual emotion in his eyes, a little sight of his soul.
My heart beat quickened under his deep stare but what really startled me were his next words.
"What is your name?" His voice didn't sound as commanding as before, it wasn't even a command, more like sincere question which startled me. It was the strange tone, in which he had asked that made me answer the question.
"Melay", my voice sounded strong, but not as strong as I wanted it to be.
The emotion vanished completely from the ice blue eyes and was replaced by anger. Seeing the fury in his eyes, I quickly added an obedient "Alpha.
It was one lesson I would never forget: Always respect one of Power.
For a small moment the anger was still visible on his face; and then, all of the sudden a chuckle errupted from his mouth. It was a foreign sound coming from him.
He sounded amused, but his face showed a different expression. The destroyed skin wrinkled in a weird way and made him look even more cruel and unforgiving. Even in human form he was the monster nightmares were ade of.
"Alpha?" He asked once his chuckle died down. "You wish."
With these words he stepped around me and disappeared in the woods.
He must have ordered something through mind link because as soon as he left, the guard yanked me up. Thoughts swirled in my head, while the bulky man dragged me towards an unknown destination.
The guard was slightly short for a male wolf, but I knew better than to underestimate him. Even though legends had been told from person to person over years, there was still truth lingering between those words.
Even during the most secluded period of my life I had heard of them, and seeing their second in command had just confirmed everything.
The scarred man possessed more power than most of the Alphas I had met. He was intimidating and it had nothing to do with his appearance.
His last words left me in fear of their Alpha.
✳
Confused thoughts swirled inside my head, while the guard dragged me over the soft forest ground.
Why didn't they kill me already?
It was not uncommon for an Alpha to proceed with the murder of the rogues who trespassed. The death would be more cruelsome and a way for the Alpha to display his power.
However, I wondered if this would be the case now as well.
