EPILOGUE ;;

The world hadn't returned to normal the next day, he knew it wouldn't, perhaps it never would, but one thing was certain; he was done fighting demons. In one felt swoop all monsters and demons had resorted to nothingness. The dead didn't rise, though, thousands had still been left for dead.

Stephen, his mother, Celeste, they weren't coming back. But their deaths weren't in vain, and that, Conner was grateful for.

He reminded himself of this as he said goodbye to Bex and Jospeh, who were traveling to other kingdoms in search of aid, to build Iqwrath to its former glory. He hugged Bex tightly on the dock, running his fingers through her hair, "be safe," he whispered to her, and she snickered.

"When have I been one to consider my own safety?" She asked, punching his shoulder. He laughed, pretending like the gesture had hurt before she actually punched him, making him rub his arm in an attempt to ease the pain. "You take care of yourself, Conner." She said, shaking his hand one last time, and he nodded.

"I will."

"Good, because if I come back and there's another dimension into Hell, I'm throwing you in."

The two laughed and hugged one last time before she got on the boat with Joseph. He backed away next to Gracyn and waved goodbye until the boat was out of sight.

Gracyn sat on the dock, kicking the water, clinging to the ruby around his neck with a sigh. Conner smiled fondly and sat beside him in silence, letting him be the one to start the conversation.

"What're you gonna do?" He finally asked, staring at their reflection in the water. Conner sighed, gazing off into the distance, almost like he himself didn't know what he'd do with his free time.

"I'll probably talk to Emile, see if there's anything else I should learn about my powers." He considered. Emile had been healing nicely, with great thanks to Felix, who'd been watching over him mindfully, making sure his mother didn't appear out of nowhere to harm him. "What about you? Where are you gonna go?" He asked, looking back at his friend.

"Home," he answered without a second thought, "I don't know where that is yet, but I'm gonna find it."

Conner nodded, "I'm here, y'know, if you need help."

Gracyn nodded back, "I know."

And just when Conner was about to get up, Gracyn placed his head on his shoulder, shutting his eyes, breathing to the sounds of the gentle waves, and Conner wrapped an arm around his shoulders.

He really didn't know what he was going to do, but he knew that he was content with where he was now.

And that was enough for him.
