⠀⠀⠀⠀Connor slumped onto his bed, feeling like his body had completely shut down, craving sleep and relaxation. He just wanted this to all be over, for everything to go back to normal, but he knew that, even once the levels of Hell were closed, his life would never be the same again.
He rolled over on his back and sighed, taking in the one millisecond of comfort before he shot up and prepared himself for the dinner.
He cleaned himself up and changed into a suit, keeping the jacket open to show his thin, black tie. His shirt was white while the rest of his outfit was black, his hair smoothed and straightened. Staring at himself in the mirror, he couldn't help but think of how he looked at the festival. That was almost a month ago.
He sighed and rubbed his tired eyes, ignoring the three knocks at the door. He didn't want to see anyone right now, he just wanted to be alone. But the person at the door was persistent.
"Come in." Conner mumbled, sitting back down on his bed, listening as the door opened and he glared over at Queen Rivera, who was analyzing the boy's messy room.
"Perhaps I should send multiple servants to come and clean your room." She teased, and Connor mustered up a chuckle.
"They've given up on trying to clean my room," he confessed, glancing back at the mess of a bed, "not that I blame them, my old room back in Fenjar was a mess as well." He laughed, "my mother would always tell me that if I continued to live like that, I'd end up having mice."
Rivera chuckled and picked up the pendent he'd left on his vanity, "did you?" She asked, Connor looked up,
"mice, I mean. Did you get infested with mice?"
"Oh Gods no, we did get one, and I kept it as a pet. But after that I cleaned up." He confessed, and sadly smiled to himself at the memory of his one pet, the only pet he ever had. "I named it Bell."
Rivera smiled and sat next to the sad boy, placing a kind and compassionate hand on his. Connor jumped and looked up at her, her eyes glistening as they looked into his, which were welling up with tears at the distant memories. He sniffed and pulled his hand away, wiping his eyes with a pathetic chuckle. "What a hero, huh?" He said, standing up, pushing his sadness away.
