"Hey Leah," Ethan said walking over from the library entrance to me. "How are you?"

I looked up from my pile of notes.

"Okay, I just wish I understood math," I complained as he sat down next to me.

He looked over at my notes. "You know, I think you're a week behind," he said as he moved through them.

"Yeah thanks for that Captain Obvious," I said, rolling my eyes and taking them back from him.

"Come on, let's go eat lunch," he said gently pulling on my arm.

"Pass, all the girls on the soccer team are just going to glare at me," I muttered before going back to writing my notes.

"Why?" he asked, confused.

"One of the conditions of letting me back in school was that I had to play soccer, but the problem is that I either play and the girls get mad, or I don't play and get expelled thus making Jess mad," I said while I flicked through my math book.

"You have to play on the girl's team?" he asked, running his fingers through his dark hair.

"Uh, I mean I don't really think I can play on the boys team now, can I?" I said jokingly.

He shrugged. Although I could practically see gears turning in his head. A little while later, he took out his laptop and I glanced over to see what he was doing. He was working on some college applications.

"Where do you want to go to college?" I asked.

"Brown," he said immediately. "I have the grades and everything, I want to be a psychiatrist," he said. "Sorry that must sound so lame," he added quickly.

"No, I think it's cute," I said at once.

"What about you?" he asked.

I sighed. "I have no idea, it's been a point of contention for a while now."

"There's nothing that interests you?" he asked.

I shrugged. "I never really thought about it."

"What classes are you good at?" he asked.

"I'm barely above average at all of them, except math, I suck at math."

He frowned. "Okay, what about outside of school? What do you like to do?"

"I play video games, I read sometimes," I sighed. "I guess I like soccer."

Ethan stared at me. Once again, it seemed like gears were turning in his head again. When fifth period started, he had to go and James took his seat.

We hadn't talked since before the game and he seemed down. I tried engaging in conversation so many times, but he didn't want to talk. I finally gave up and left for my next class.

I went to my locker and opened it. I found three notes inside. The first one was a note saying to quit soccer before I got hurt. I rolled my eyes and crumpled it up.

The next one was from the office saying to place my lock on my locker. I rolled my eyes, What was the big deal? Who was going to steal a match textbook?

The last one was from Ethan saying I should actually keep my locker locked as well. I smiled a bit and took the notes with me and went to speech class. When I arrived, I sat down next to Ethan in the back and the teacher came up to us.

"You're presenting today, right?"

"Uh," Ethan paused and looked over at me.

We definitely hadn't done any work on our project, like ever. Was this guy dumb? I was suspended for a week. When would we have worked on it?
