"Give me all the gossip" Angie shrieks loudly as she helps me out to a waiting taxi.
Tony and Mike left a few minutes ago.
"He's coming around to see me tomorrow" I say. " He lives just a few doors up from me".
"Does he know?" asks Angie.
"No", I sigh sadly.
All of the men I've ever spoken to run a mile when they find out I'm blind. It's all I know though, and I can do most things independently. Some of the more obvious things like cooking and sewing are not on the agenda, but I can do a lot.
This has always made me less confident around strangers though.
I don't want people thinking I'm going to be a burden.
"Do you want me to come around tomorrow?" asks Angie.
"Nah, I'll be fine" I say, trying to sound braver than I feel.
Angie gives me a reassuring hug and says "just holler if you need me".
We are soon back at mine and I carefully make my way up the path. My dad put in a fence for me to help me be more independent and I'm grateful because if Tony is looking out and sees me he'll just assume I'm a little drunk. I turn in the general direction of the taxi and wave to Angie. I make my way into the house and up to my room where I get ready for bed, remembering Tony's soft voice.
