Someone, somewhere has made Emily feel like crap at some point in her life and I'm going to fix that. I can't bear seeing her hating herself because of something that's not her fault and is out of her control.
We sit listening to music and chatting. The guys come over and she helps Vic come up with lyric ideas. She's so bright but doesn't realise.
I'm about to head back with the guys when the phone rings. I grab it and hand it to her.
"Hello" she says.
The voice at the other end is a specialist I later learn, who thinks he can do something for her sight. He wants her to go in tomorrow. He's had a last minute cancellation.
Emily asks me to call her parents, so I do, handing her the phone as it rings out.
She tells them the news and they say they are on their way back.
She's shaking with nerves so I stay with her until they return.
