Don't talk to me

You stretched on your tip toes, finger tips weakly attempting to wiggle the heavy calculous book into its place. It had been like this for a while and you were too stubborn to ask for help. A pale arm reached over you shoving the book onto the shelf.

"I had it." You grumbled shaking the blood back into your arm.

"Sure you did, lil mouse." He smirked down at you.

"Stop calling me that." You shooed him back.

"Awe but you're such a tiny little -" He gasped when your fist dug into his gut.

"Do not be mistaken, I might be little but I can and will kick your ass." You growled pushing past him.

"F/N!" Shanks called, "You have a visitor, so you can take your break now."

You smugly glanced at Kid's still gapping face before practically skipping to the front of the store. Law stood at the counter waiting for you with a soft neutral expression.

"You face looks better." You hummed.

"Thanks I guess." He ruffled the hair on the back of his neck, "You ready to eat?"

"Mhm! Let me clock out and grab my bag." Law's eyes widened as Kid finally emerged from the corner of the store where you had been.

You stuck your tongue out at the redhead as you entered the storefront again.

"So, the old man caved and hired a guy finally." Law commented opening a container of chicken salad from the bag he'd brought and pushed it toward you.

You hummed in response unpacking a box of crackers, some hummus and a baggie of baby carrots.

"Why'd it have to be that guy?" He frowned picking out a carrot.

"Nothing I can't handle. I've already punched him twice." You stated proudly.

Law raised his brows, "Please stop with the fighting?"

"Fine," You sighed, "I'll try for you, but I really hate that guy."

"I guess now you have to try to get along for work at least."

"Sure." You snorted, "Anyway, how are things with you it's been a couple of days."

"I feel like I'm living at the clinic, but we got to sit in on a heart surgery yesterday. It was really interesting." His usual neutral expression lit up.

"A surgeon huh?" You mused, "I thought you wanted to take over your dad's practice."

"Mmm, but I think I might take a different route. The old man is OK with it." He hummed.

You had been close friends since second grade. There was just something about his adorable face and insanely calm demeanor that drew you to him. While all of the other kids were screaming and running around you and Law would sit and write stories or draw together.
As you grew older you'd developed deeper feelings for him. When you were seventeen you confessed but watching him pout as you spoke prompted you to shut it down. The look on his face said it all - the feelings were not mutual.
Three years later you were still living in the friend box you'd trapped yourself in. You never even considered another guy before. Maybe you should think more about Killer's suggestion the other day. Perhaps a distraction would be good for you?

You caught Kid's gaze through the store window as you gnawed on a carrot. He rolled his eyes while you flipped him off. Law blinked at you and followed your eyes to the store before sighing.

"I feel bad for Shanks." He murmured packing up the now empty containers. "Why?" Your eyes snapped to him.

"He doesn't know what he got himself into." He chuckled, "It's time for you to go back."
