Sam was quick to react and finally freed himself from the wolf's jaws. His ankle was swollen and bloody. His shoe and pant leg was also torn. Sam crawls backwards watching as the creature stumbles after him, swaying from side to side until it tripped over its own paws and collapsed onto the floor. A deep red almost black liquid starts to surround it slowly as it's eyes grew dull with each passing second.
"Sam?!" Dean called concern laced in his voice as he makes his way over to his younger brother. He stopped though when a faint splash was heard from beneath his feet making the hunter look down to see Millie laying on the floor motionless. Dean's eyes filled with regret as he looked down at her. His eyes followed her outstretched hand seeing that she was reaching for the gun, Sam's gun, that was a few feet in front of her.
"Sam?" Dean's voice was softer then before as he steps out of the red liquid on the floor and slowly makes his way to his brother who still sat on the floor motionless.

Sam soon snapped out of his trance and stood up quickly and turns to where Millie laid motionless. Sam slowly walked over his eyes trained on Millie as new tears slid down his face. He collapses onto his knees next to her not taking any notice of the blood seeping into his jeans. He reaches out to her his hand moving up her arm or her shoulder. He turns her over onto her back taking notice of her slightly parted mouth and closed eyes. Some of her hair was covered in blood but Sam could still imagine how soft it was when he ran his hand through it. He pulls Millie into his lap cradling her motionless body to his as he silently cries.
"It should've been me." Sam spoke not taking his eyes off of Millie.
"Sammy..."
"I...I'm supposed to protect her Dean!" Cutting his brother off he looks up at Dean with sad eyes. "Everyone I've ever cared about is dying around me and it's because of me. I had a gun in my hand when that thing attacked us but I just sat there like a complete moron as Millie struggled and got hurt. I was the one that should've gotten her to safety ...but look where I got her." Sam's voice lowered at the end as his gaze landed on Millie's motionless form. Regret, pain, sadness, guilt, and so many other emotions filled his eyes as he took in the sight. She looked almost peaceful in his arms.

"Hey." Dean called trying to get Sam to look at him."Sam!" Dean spoke sternly stepping towards his brothers side making Sam look back up at him.
"It's not your fault." Sam shook his head disagreeing with his brothers statement as he looks off to the side.
"It is though Dean." Sam argued turning to his brother. "I could've done something to help. I could've made her leave. I could've-"
"Now Sam that is enough." Dean sternly spoke glaring over at his brother. "It's as much my fault as it is yours. I should've been hear when this god damn Shifting Wolf son of a bitch attacked, but I wasn't. If anyone it to blame Sam, it's me." Sam looks over at his brother who still held the shotgun in hand. Dean's eyes where filled with sorrow and guilt, but something else Sam wasn't sure of. It almost looked like relief.
"You didn't see it happen Dean. You didn't see the Wolf sink it's claws into her. You didn't see her struggling to prevent it from ripping out her throat. You didn't see the pain, the pleading look she was giving me as she laid on the floor bleeding out as I struggled to get away from it. You didn't see the life leave her eyes and the last breath leave her lips." Sam spoke pointing at Dean who still glared at him.

It was silent for a few seconds the only sound that reached their ears was the sound of Sam's ragged breath as he tried to calm down.
"Sam...we need to go." Dean spoke watching his broken brother cradling Millie in his arms.
"I can't, I can't just leave her Dean. Maybe theirs something we can do." Sam's voice was horse from the crying. Dean walks over to his brother and places a comforting hand on his shoulder before giving in a gently squeeze.
"I'll do the rest Sam." He spoke making Sam look up at him.
"Dean, I can't just leave her here." He responds making Dean shake his head.
"You have to Sam. What are people going to think when they see you walking out of the apartment complex with her like that." Sam once again looks down as Millie as tears continued to fall.

Without any words Sam gets up and walks out of the apartment. Dean watches his brothers sadden figure with sad eyes before turning to finish the nod they had started.
