Chapter Three

Friends That Are Famous

Chase Matthew appeared on the screen of my phone. Chase and I talk quite a fair bit but right now I am quite hesitant to answer the phone.

“Hello?” I say into the hand held device hoping that he had some good news, that he had settled down and found a lover but I doubt it.

“Aye! How ya doing Cas?” he says in his usual happy tone.

“I’m ok, what are you calling for?” I ask as I stir the soup adding some salt and pepper, I love cooking.

“Just wanted to talk to you, we got so drunk last night. We really need to catch up,” Chase complained. I guess that is a no to the settling down then. Not getting a chance to reply Chase continued, “So the band and I decided we should visit for a week!”

“Are you serious?”

“Yelp and I hope you have a lot of room at your place ‘cause that is where we are staying,” he said. I don’t think I should tell them just yet that I live in a two bedroom apartment.

“This is awesome! When are you lot coming? I won’t be able to take time of work or anything because I haven’t been working there that long but I will spend the afternoons and weekend with you and I will give you all ideas on what you can do during the day so you don’t get bored!”

“Stop rambling and calm down! We are visiting in two weeks from the Friday the 15th till the 30th and I am sure we can survive without your guidance.”

“Hey babe, oh shit sorry you are on the phone,” Nick said as he walked through the door.

“Uh Chase I have to go, I will talk to you tomorrow or something! See ya,” I say not even waiting for him to reply before hanging up. “Hello, it was fine it was just Chase.”

Serving up dinner with some homemade garlic bread we enjoyed a bottle… or two of win before talking and fooling around to music till the early morning then going to bed.

Getting up after a long night is painful enough but when there is a loud noise which wakes you up it is even more so.

“Nick?” I ask into the darkness.

“What is up?” he answers back.

“Can you stop the noise please?” I plead with him as the annoying noise grows louder and louder.

“It is your phone; do you want me to answer it?”

“Please do,” I say then the noise stops and I hear him talking to the person on the other end. He tells the person I am asleep and then he hangs up soon after.

“Didn’t think you felt like talking, it was Chase saying that he would call back later,” Nick explains as then collected a glass of water for me. “You aren’t very good with alcohol are you? We didn’t even have that much!”

“Shut up,” I say not in the mood for his mocking. I look at him sensing his glare with that he also holds a face that is filled with pure anger so much that it scared me. I had never seen Nick’s face like that.

“How dare you talk to me like that,” he growled, slamming the glass of water onto the side table. I would have flinched except I was frozen with fear. It isn’t like I meant to say it to him rudely; it is just how it came out I am rarely rude to anyone! When I don’t say anything he becomes angrier. “Got nothing to say? Not going to apologise?” he asks grabbing my hair and forcing me to sit up.

“I didn’t mean it like that,” I say without stuttering, surprising myself. HE has no right to talk to ME like that!

“Of course you didn’t! You are such a bitch; I don’t even know why I am still with you! You are emotionally unstable and you aren’t that great looking either,” he says slapping my face then walking out the door which I hear slam shut.

I sit there under my blanket for what seems like forever before my phone rings. I quickly check the caller ID hoping it isn’t Nick but lucky for him it is Chase. I test my voice our hoping it sounds normal before answering.

“Hey Chase.”

“Are you alright?” How is that possible that he can tell there is something up just from me saying two words?

“Yeah, I am fine. Did you ring before?”

“Uh yeah, so Randy said that while we are there we should visit Logan too! I know you guys aren’t friends anymore but I think we should all go out for a drink or something. ‘Kay?” This makes me think for a moment, Logan and I had been together up until we went separate ways after university. There were a few arguments, he wanted me to go where he was going but I wanted him to come with me but in the end we decided it would be best to go separate ways. Sometimes I wonder about him but then I get distracted.

“Um yeah that sounds okay.”

“Are you sure, I asked him and he said it was fine as long as you are okay with it. We don’t want to pressure you or anything,” this should sound sweet and make me want to coo but instead I get angry at him.

“Why would that be pressuring me? It isn’t like you are forcing me to see him, I just said yes! I don’t mind seeing him! Just because I am the one who suggested we broke up doesn’t mean I don’t ever want to see him again! Sure it might be awkward but I am sure we will get over it plus you guys will be there,” I yell through the phone then hang up quickly from embarrassment from my outburst. I could just imagine Chase standing there with his mouth hung open possibly swallowing a fly.

Just a few seconds later I receive a text from Chase saying that he was sorry and that he didn’t mean it in that way. I feel so bad right now, the way I treated him is like he was a piece of dirt! I NEVER treat anyone like that, he didn’t deserve it, and he didn’t know what just happened. The urge to call him ran through my veins but I rejected the thought as I probably would do the same thing again, instead I went out to the living room and laid on the couch watching television all day and most of the night drifting in and out of consciousness.
