Tyler's POV
"Josh, what were you even thinking?!" I finally say to him after he explains everything. "He is one of the toughest guys here. He doesn't even play and instrument! He goes here instead of juvie! He could've killed you, easily! Or worse..you could have been expelled!"
"I know..I know. I just couldn't let him talk to Cassandra like that." He tries to explain.
"I know, and I am really glad that you tried to defend her, but really? Shoving him?"
"I know. I'm not gonna leave this cabin for a long, long while. If anyone asks, Nick killed me. I died."
I chuckled, but then realized how not funny it was. "Don't say that. I like you alive, thanks." I say dryly.
"Sorry.." Josh mumbled. "Oh wait..thank you??"
"You're welcome. You're lucky nothing too bad happened, Josh. But I'm glad that you stood up for yourself, and for Cassandra." I paused for a second. "Hey..I really missed you the past few days."
Josh smiled his squinty eyed smile. "I missed you too, a lot. How was it?"
"Well, my sleeping bag had fleas, my dad burned all our food, and my toes froze almost every night. But..I thought about stuff a lot, and wrote some stuff, so it wasn't awful. Like I said though, I missed you."
"Well I'm glad you're back now. I missed you, too. Can you show me what you wrote??" He asked, with genuine interest.
"Well it's not really done yet.." I say, looking at the ground.
"I don't mind. If you wanna show me, I'm all ears."
"Ummm.." I think for a little bit. "Well..okay."
I know
Where you stand
Silent in the trees
And that's where I am
Silent in the trees
Standing cowardlyI can feel your breath
I can feel my death
I want to know you
I want to seeI want to say...
HelloJosh was focused the whole time, really listening to the words, I could tell. "Tyler..that was amazing..honestly." He grabbed his drumsticks from the coffee table. "Wait..do that again."
After that, we spent hours working on the first verse and the chorus together. It was amazing, how we wrote with each other, how we just naturally could work together. It wasn't like any other relationship I had, with anyone.
"Great, I think we can preform something for the next jam." I smiled. "Speaking of which, song writing class is in 10 minutes."
"Ten minutes..that means we got time to kill..." he smirked.
I raised an eyebrow at him. "Nope. You're being punished."
"What?? I thought we were over that." He said, looking actually hurt.
"Nope. Sorry. Maybe once you apologize to Nick, I'll think about it. I gotta take a shower." I say, then I take some clean clothes and go into the bathroom.
Ten minutes later, we walked together to the class, hand in hand. Josh persuaded me into that, at the very least.
While we were there, I was inspired to try to write something about Josh. I could only come up with a few lines that I liked, but I think it fit us well.
I used to say I wanna die before I'm old, but because of you I might think twice.
