Trapped between two lifes

Chapter 2

'OK guys, so one thing is sure: Things have gotten pretty serious and I don't like that at all.'said Vincent sighing.

We have been siting in the living room for over an hour, to discuss our current matter and we have come to no conclusion. The atmosphere is tense and the worry written on everyones' face.

Kate is trying to remain calm as always, but it looks like the events have affected her too. The same is happening to Vincent. He's using his humour to lighten the mood, but his jokes are misplaced and often receives the indignation of us all, in return. 

Emma and Ronan are sitting on the couch, holding each others hand. While they're usually filling the house with their liveliness, today is the one of the very rare moments I'm seeing them that quiet. 

Ethen is outraged, as I expected him to be and is letting his anger out on everyone else. 

The reaction that affects me the most is however Cora's,  making me feel guilty. She's standing on one corner of the room and is looking me like she wants to tell me that it's all my fault. Just as our relationship had started becoming better it is now falling apart. I can't blame her though, because if it weren't for me we wouldn't be having this meeting now.

'All right, since I don't think we'll be coming to a conclusion in the near future, what do you think Layla about escorting me to my doctors appointment?'said Kate, startling me.

'I thought we would be going together!'said Vincent a little disappointed.

'Well, the truth is that I actually prefer a bit of girl company right now. You can take me to my next appointment. So, shall we Layla?'

'Yes, of course I'll come! Don't worry Vincent, she's in good hands.'I said and was glad that I  would be getting away from the chaos that prevails here. Either way I'm suspecting that Kate has something to tell me.

We took the family car and I drove us to the hospital.

We had arrived earlier than we'd thought, so we had to wait in the waiting room.

'I'm so excited I'll soon be having a baby boy! Every day, I'm daydreaming about how my kid will look like. If he will be more like Vincent or me. Despite the difficulties we're facing now, the cominng of my baby is filling me with happy thoughts.'said Kate full of pride.

'Either way you're baby is going to be beautiful!'I told her and after a small pause I continued:

'I really want to apologize to you for all the worries I've caused you and'I wasn't able to finish my sentence because Kate interrupted me, telling me:

'There is absolutely no reason for you to be apologizing! We are a family now and we are happy to have you. We finally saw Ethen smiling again after a very long time and that was the best gift you could give us. I see that Cora is giving you a hard time, but don't let her get to you. You know how Cora can be..It's just a phase and it'll pass, I'm sure of it.'and smiled at me encouragingly.

'The doctor is waiting for you inside.'said the assistant and nodded Kate to come.

While I was waiting outside, I tried getting my thoughts in order.

In my desperation, I also thought about going back to my old pack, so the rest does not have to suffer anymore because of me. However, I just can't leave Ethen, no matter how selfish that sounds. The only solution that comes to my mind is going to them in secret and talking to them , in hope that I might be able to get them to think reasonanbly. But I'm afraid I'll be making matters worse. The problem is that I can't come up with somethin else.

After the visit to the doctor, we went to the supermarket and got supplies we needed.

We came out of the store packed with many things and suddenly a bag fell from Kate's hands. I tried helping her, but as I was also packed, it was rather difficult to do so. Thankfully, it seems as if it was our lucky day, because a young man rushed to our help.

'Leave it up to me. It is not good to tire yourselve like that in your condition.'said the guy.

'Thank you so much, young man!'said Kate gratefully.

'No problem. I'm Adam. I assume you two are part of a pack?'said Adam.

He was a guy around 22 years old, tall with short red hair and red, magnetizing eyes. He looked kind and cheerful.

'Yes we are. I'm Layla by the way and this is Kate. What about you? Are you here with your pack?'I asked him.

'Unfortunately, I haven't managed to find one to join. I've been a lone wolf for years now.'he answered us.

'You are welcome to come and visit us, whenever you want! We live in the end of the woods.'said Kate.

'Thank you so much for the invitation. Be sure that I will come to visit.'he announced us smilingly and we left. 

That is when our paths parted.
