When you spend a year with father
You grow onto him, and only him
When introduced to others
It's quite difficult to fit in.Screaming laughter echoing in my ears
But I refuse to join
I let myself watch their eager faces
While fiddling with a coin.Once I warmed up to the smiles
I slipped into the fun
We jumped, we laughed, we screamed, we danced
Doing anything that can be done.Building forts, jumping heights, slaying dragons with armoured knights,
Crashing cars, pillow fights, telling stories for the fright.Chopping cherries, making stew, dolls in fancy dress and shoes.
Painting faces, chasing pets,
Together reciting the alphabet.Jump in boxes, fly a plane, splashing puddles in the rain.
Checking heartbeats, babysit,
stacking teddies where they can't fit.Muscles burnin in my legs
Throats going sore from screaming
Yet I refuse to let them leave
It makes me think I'm dreaming. Can I cling on them to make sure
They never leave me?
I want to them to stay, don't board the car
Waving your hand, I see.No, I don't cry, I simply search
For another companion
Hoping for them to return one day
Perhaps like a whole battalion. Now I'm left alone in the house
With an invisible sister in her room
Mother's away, father's out working
And I'm hoping to play again soon.
