"Where are you going?" Nyx heard Alec ask, following her as she walked with a quickening pace towards the Institute's main doors. She heard another set of footsteps, well, the clicking of heels, and she immediately knew that it was Isabelle following behind her big brother.

"Out," Nyx answered bluntly, switching the small duffel bag to her left hand while taking out her phone with her right. She looked at the text that one of her teammates had sent her and saw that they were only two minutes out. Nyx told them to meet her about a mile out where the Institute was, and to land with the reflectors on, so that the stealth jet would seem invisible to all eyes.

"But where?" Isabelle then asked, hearing the irritated huff her older brother gave towards the redhead that had her back to them.

"You know I work for the government, Isabelle, and right now, I've got a mission that I simply cannot miss," Nyx answered with a smirk. Although the Lightwoods couldn't see it, they could definitely hear it in her tone.

"What?" Alec hissed, grabbing the redhead's arm and jerking her around, a pissed off expression on his face, and a similar one appearing on hers. "You're leaving? And for what, because some mundanes called in for your help? You need to be here, in this Institute. We may have the Cup but Valentine is still out there, looking for you and your sister. We already have enough on our plates because of the Clave, you running into Valentine's open arms will not help anything... unless, you're working for him, of course?"

"F**k you!" Nyx growled, wrenching her arm free of his grip, her glare deadly. "After all I've done for you; risking my life time and time again for this stupid Cup that I don't give two sh*ts about... this is what I get? You accusing me of working with Valentine? He has my mother!-"

"Exactly! He has your mother! What do you think he's going to do to you if he catches you-"

"You think Valentine is hurting my mother?" Nyx barked out a cold laugh, "please, he wouldn't dare- and you know why? It's because he still cares for her. He's not going to hurt my mother because he's still in love with her... after everything she did to him... he still loves her." Alec and Isabelle were both stunned to silence, not knowing what to say. The male Lightwood felt guilty about saying those things to Nyx, as he painfully knew that she not only risked her life for the Cup, but for them as well. She probably saved his, Isabelle's and Jace's lives and he didn't even notice nor acknowledge it until now. And accusing her of working with her father- the enemy- that was a d**k move. He felt like an a**hole.

"And those mundanes," Nyx spat that term out like it was dirt in her mouth, "are my family, more than you people will ever be to me." Giving the two Shadowhunters, well, more to the male Shadowhunter, a glare that would have killed him three times over if it were possible, and stormed out of the Institute, the gigantic wooden doors slamming against the walls with a force that left cracks and splinters.

"You messed up, bad," Isabelle shook her head, disappointed at her big brother, knowing not to go after the angry redhead.

"Tell me something I don't know," Alec groaned, hanging his head, not quite able to meet his sister's eyes. When he accused Nyx, he saw a flash of hurt course through her blue-green eyes, an emotion that he didn't think he'd ever see on her. And that only made him feel even worse. He'll apologize when she comes back, that is, if she's willing to talk to him again.

"Alec, you think you could get my stele back?" Alec's younger brother, Max, asked him, the little boy no older than five or six struggling to walk by his older brother because of how tall Alec was.

"They took it away because you nearly burnt down the Mumbai Institute," Alec sighed.

"How many times do I have to say it was an accident?" Max sighed exasperatedly. Alec stopped him and crouched down so that he was at eye level with his younger brother.
