Fury filled her and she lashed out, claws fully erect and slashing at the air in front of her. Barely, the person managed to dodge- shouting at Cassidy but she wasn't listening. Chest tight, she snarled and lept at the person again- aiming for their face before pausing.
"Carter?" Huffing, he pushed at her shoulders.
"Calm down, alright? I ain't gonna hurt you." Rubbing at his nose, he stared at her attire with a frown on his face.
Belatedly, she looked at herself and winced. Tatters, again. They hung off her frame in ribbons but at least managed to cover all her delicates. Scowling, Carter shrugged out of his jacket and pulled it over her shoulders- awkwardly patting them afterwards.
"Thanks, Carter." A small smile made its way onto her face and she shared it with Carter. In return, he gave her a grin that was more teeth than it was anything else.
Slowly, they made their way together and he explained how they had split up. After using some choice words about Demos' leadership decisions, she interjected. A pale hand went between them and she frowned, eyes crinkling.
"Demos is here?" Carter rolled his eyes.
"Well, yeah. Otherwise why would I be here?" Eyebrows raising, she crossed her arms.
"Because of the goodness in your heart?" Throwing his head back, he let out a loud laugh.
"Demons aren't good, Cassidy. Get that through your thick skull." Scowling, she stepped over a particularly large stone- noticing they were getting close to the front of the building before Carter made a sharp left.
Freezing she frowned at him, thinking it would be better to wait in plain view for their comrades before hitting herself on their forehead. It suddenly hit her how stupid it was to be walking outside of the facility, with hardly any clothes, with a person who'd throw her under the bus if necessary, and managed to turn into the woods. It took a while, but she soon caught up with him- dodging roots and rocks. Vaguely, it reminded her of the last time she had to escape and shook her head. She needed to think of different things.
"You need to stop lying to yourself," She started, wringing her hands. "Don't make excuses to keep up the stigma. You'll still be a Demon even if you do something nice." He scoffed, but they lapsed into silence.
Soon after, they walked into the small clearing and waited. And waited. And waited. Eventually, Cassidy started pacing- started looking at minute details and drove herself crazy. Carter was fine, making a small fire to busy his hands but she was near pulling her hair out. Where were they? Were they okay? Were they okay?
Biting her lip, she paced again. Nails biting into her arm, she came up with strategic plans. Tearing at her nails with rabid teeth, she watched the sun set. And then, eventually, she saw their imposing presence across the horizon and all tension left her.
Demos was smeared with blood, his hair a mess and now a faint rouge. Clothes torn, he seemed to be talking to a bloodied Lily and she wanted to gasp. Lily's hair was short, almost as if it had been cut in the crossfire and she looked pissed. Laughingly, Demos pushed at her shoulder before turning to face the camp and froze. Heart thudding in her chest, she stood still- facing him off. His eyes almost violated her body in their rush to categorize her injuries. And then all at once, she was being held- the scent of smoke in her nose as his arms clenched around her tightly.
"Cassidy," Desperately, his hands combed through her short hair as he held her face. "You're okay." Deep blue searched her for lies, but she wrapped her hands around his wrists and settled him.
