"I've ran a full check up on Greyson and I've found that he has suffered from laryngitis." The doctor explained to Scott and Lisa. They were in the doctor's office, discussing about Greyson.

"Laryngitis?" Scott had no idea.

"It is an inflammation of the vocal cords in the voice box. A patient with laryngitis will usually experience throat pain, hoarseness and voice loss. In rare cases, laryngitis may be accompanied by a fever or becomes acutely painful. Laryngitis usually lasts less than two weeks. So, I was informed that Greyson is a singer, isn't he?"

"Yes, he is. Why doctor?" Lisa asked worriedly.

"Since he is a singer, I assume that voice overuse with probably excess singing is one of the causes of his laryngitis. As I mentioned before, laryngitis usually lasts less than two weeks. However, continued misuse of the voice may cause the development of vocal cord nodules, small growths on the vocal chords, that can permanently distort the voice."

"Does that mean...he...he has..." Lisa couldn't finish her words.

"Yes. To remove the nodules, he must undergo a surgery and of course, there will be a risk."

"Is there any other way?" Scott asked while his wife was looking at the doctor with hope in her eyes.

"Unfortunately, it is the only way. The nodules have been growing in there and without proper treatment, it's hard for me to say, it's a little bit late. An operation is the only alternative."

Greyson's parents were thinking of a way to tell their son about the news. It was gonna be hard on him, they thought.

Greyson had recovered from the fever but his throat was still throbbingly in pain. He didn't remember what happened that he had to lay there in the hospital bed. A noise that came from the door snapped him from his thoughts.

Lisa and her husband walked in. "Greyson? You're awake?"

Greyson opened his mouth to answer that but there was absolutely no voice coming out. It was all air.

What happened to my voice?

"Don't talk, Greyson. It will hurt your throat more." Lisa said. She was sitting on the bed, patting Greyson's hair. Greyson looked at his mother's face that was gloomy. Then he turned his gaze to his father when he heard him sigh.

"Why did you hide it, son? Why didn't you tell us you're sick?" Scott let his disappointment out. Greyson answered that with a questioning look on his face.

Then, his mother told him everything that the doctor had explained to them. Greyson had a shock expression on his face.

A surgery? That worse? Oh what have I done...

Two days later was the operation day. Greyson felt nervous since that was his first time being in the operation theatre with a surgeon and nurses gathering around him. He didn't want to do it but he had to as he was thinking of his career. If he didn't do the surgery, he wouldn't recover. At least that's what he thought.

An hour or so, the operation was done. Greyson was still unconscious the moment he was transferred from the operation room back to his room. An oxygen mask was put on his mouth to help him breathe. His mother was waiting for him to come round in the room. Soon after, his father came in with Alexa.
