I walked home from school with Payton. It was warm enough, even if it was cloudy. "Do you know where I live yet?" I shook my head no and tilted my head. "I think I live right next door to you." She smiled, and I smiled back. "Oh, you should probably meet my parents, if that's OK with you." I shook my head yes excitedly. I had never been over a non related person's house before. If that makes sense.

"Mom!" Payton yelled as we walked in. "I'm in the kitchen!" a voice yelled from a different room. We walked over and Payton introduced me to her Mother. "Mom, this is Skyler, she lives next door." "Its nice to meet you Skyler." Her mother said to me. She seemed grateful Payton was making friends. I shook her hand as if saying "nice to meet you to."

Payton's mom looked slightly confused why I was not replying. Payton whispered something in her mom's ear. Probably about how I don't talk, cause I heard her mother say, "gotcha".

When we were done talking to her we did our homework in her room. History. Yuck. Vikings. But Payton seemed to get it, so I just copied off of her paper. Math was easy. I'm pretty sure she was copying off of me in that subject. Then I just saved my health homework for home. I waved to Payton goodbye and she did the same.

At home I finished my health homework, nutrition, and got out a snack. Mom came home when I finished. She came in and smiled. " Hi love." She said. I waved. "How was school?" Mom asked. I put a thumbs up and she smiled again. "Good."

We began to eat in silence. "Skyler?" My mother asked. I looked up from my plate. "I'm thinking of remarrying." I nearly spit out my rice. Marriage? Wait you guys don't get it do you?

My Dad died three years ago in a major car crash. Mother cried for a week, and I didn't go to school for a month. One of the reasons I don't talk.

"I haven't found out who yet," my mom began, "but its for the best." I looked down. "Your father would have wanted it this way." She said, teary eyed. She came over and gave me a hug, and I wrapped my arms around her neck. "I love you." She said. I stroked her hair. I love you too.
