I get Mom up and I throw on a sweatshirt and yoga pants. When we get there, the first thing I notice is the monitor. It is super slow. I may not be a doctor, but I know when the monitor is slow, you slow down. I slowly step over to Payton's bed.
I start to cry as her eyes slowly open. Her pupils are tiny. "Sky, come here." She said. I step closer to the bed. "I'm not feeling so good." I softly press my index finger on her lips. They feel so cold. "Save your breath." I say.
As I stand there, stroking her silky red hair, I think of what we have been through. She was so nice, she helped me get friends, She was there for me, we had fun, we went through moments I want to have back. She never deserved this. This ending. So soon.
"Payton", I say. She looks up. " You were my first friend." She smiles, then the monitor stops beeping. Her chest stops moving. Her eyes close.
I cry and cry and cry and cry. My mom cries. Kathy cries. What causes all this? Have you ever had a best friend? Keep them. No matter what challenges you face, no matter what comes at you, stay their friend. Cause when you loose them, you can't ever get them back.
