I signed up for cheer squad. Try outs, lucky for me, were tomorrow. I was ready.
"I'm so not ready for this." I say to Katie. "Its easy, you will do fine." She says. A girl who looks like she just graduated came up in shorts and a tight shirt. "OK girls, lets cheer." Everyone started cheering and splitting up into small groups. I went into Katie's group. First, we had to tumble. Easy. I'm pretty sure I passed that. Here is where it got hard.
We had to make a small pyramid. With a flyer and everything. Guess who was picked to be flyer. You guessed it. Me.
"You can do it!" Katie says, trying to be encouraging. I've seen what happens to flyers. They come to school in casts. I was nervous.
Once the pyramid is complete, two taller girls, probably spotters, took my feet and lifted me up on the top. I stood, kinda shaky. Then I flipped off. I landed. On my feet. I opened my eyes slowly and the girls in my group were all cheering. I felt happy.
The next day in school, the list of who made it and who was cut was on the billboard. I was with Katie. I made it. Even if I was the 20th on the list, I still made it. "Congrats!" Katie says. I smile. "You too, you were actually 10th on the list, I wasn't."
Math was boring that morning. I am never bored in math. Yet here I am. We were doing a thing on decimals. Trust me, you didn't want to be in that class. I was moved to the back of the room now. Probably cause of my "cheating" on the last test.
I told Derek after math that I had made the squad. He smiled and hugged me. This was pretty good. Until I saw something terrible. Katie was getting beat up.
