"Where are we going?"

That's what Davina kept asking Kol while they were walking in the streets. But instead of a proper answer, he just gave her the silent treatment.

"We were supposed to talk. You were supposed to help me with the-"

He, finally, gave her a reaction. A sarcastic half-assed grin. "Oh you're really rushing it, aren't you little witch?"

"I'm not-"

"I agreed to help you. But I expect something in return."

She gulped. Those words coming from someone like Kol, definitely gave her goosebumps.

"And what exactly is that?"

"To begin with, I'll need some answers."

'To begin with?' So there was more apart from that?

She arched a brow. "What kind of answers?"

Kol span around. His eyes, dripping with irony and mischief, pierced hers. "If you don't mind, love, I'm the one who asks the questions and you're the one who answers."

She rolled her eyes. "Then go ahead. Ask."

"First things first, which part of my memories did you mess with?"

She narrowed her eyes in disbelief. "You don't know?"

"If I knew, I wouldn't be asking. And that bloody headache has been torturing my brain 24/7 ever since I woke up. So tell me."

She thought about it for a moment. Should she really tell? It was not like something would change, but what good would do telling him what happened in his head?

Kol, seeing her being hesitant to talk, glared at her sharply. "Don't even think about lying. I know when you lie and when you don't."

How? Was he just bluffing?

Eventually, she gave in. "There happened... a mistake."

His gaze darkened. "What do you mean?"

"I was supposed to jump in the memory you had of Mary Alice. Back in 1914. But while I was searching for that specific memory in your mind, your subsconcious kept fighting back and tried to push me out of your head violently. That's when I lost control and happened to jump in the wrong memory."

Nervousness was written all over his face. "And what was that memory?"

Her answer followed soon after. "Your human life. One thousand years ago."

He pursed his lips, lowering his gaze sceptically. It was hard to tell what he felt or thought that moment, but what struck her as odd was that he did not seem to be upset over it. He wasn't angry or pissed but you couldn't tell he was happy either to hear that. Regardless, he was neutral.

"And what did you exactly see?"

"You. Your family. Esther." she replied, furrowing her eyebrows with a bitter expression on her face. "You were quite different back then."

He snickered. "Yeah. I'm way more good-looking now."

Again, she rolled her eyes. "I'm not talking about appearance. I'm talking about your personality."

His face went straight. The vampire had a darker shade colouring his eyes, as another ironic grin reappeared on his face. "Well thankfully, I'm not like that any more. Being a human is a part of my life I would galdly erase from my mind."

Is that really it? She noticed the way Kol tried to belittle the word 'human' and something bothered her about it. But he seemed somehow happy with his life back then. Then again, Davina only saw a fragment of that memory.
