Chapter 24- Heal
"And you feel relieved?" Dr.Ross asks me.
"Yeah, I feel better." I shrug.
"Do you find yourself falling deeper in love with Harry?"
"Why does everyone keep asking me that?" I roll my eyes.
"Why do you keep avoiding the answer?"
I sigh. "I don't love anyone... not really."
"Not even your parents?"
She's in her annoying mood today. I knew there was a reason why I got high before this meeting.
"I love them, it's just-" I huff and run a hand over my face. "Are we done? I have somewhere to be,"
She shakes her head, pulling her gaze away from me. "Yeah, we're done."
Everything was fine until she pulled up the topic about love.
Now I'm leaving because that is one topic I always try my best to avoid; love. I always like to refer to myself as a realist and if anyone knows me then they know I am incapable of loving or being loved.
I immediately throw on my jogging pants as soon as I get home and run for almost half an hour into the city to go to the gym.
Pete scolds me for being absent for almost four days. I apologize and he says to shut up and get to work and I do just that; wrapping my hands and throwing the hood over my head.
"Today, we're going to practice straight punches."
I'm confused. "Straight punches?"
He nods, walking over to one of the heavy bags. "Your opponent will be in trouble. You will still have gas left in the tank and even if you think you have nothing left in you, you search for it and rip the animal out from inside you."
I understand now.
"So then all you need to do is this-" he breaks out, throwing straight; down the middle punches all full speed. The heavy bag has dents where he was punching by the time he stops. "Speed is power. Speed is...power."
I work on that for two hours, Pete's words replaying through my head over and over. Now that I feel like I am ready to move on with life, I don't have to come to the gym anymore.
To have his face suddenly appear on the heavy bag's center is something I don't necessarily want to happen, but I still need to face the facts here. Garrett is still out there and as long as he is, he can always get his hands on me again and if he does, maybe this time things will be different because I will know how to fight back.
I go to school the next day and Mrs.Hills assigns us to write a paper about our opinions on fate and if we believe in it or not.
Harry offers me a ride to his house so we can work on it together and at first, I decline because I figure I haven't been spending as much time with my parents as I should especially with the new baby on the way; but then Harry does that thing he does when he kisses me, wraps his arms around me and suddenly, I'm his prisoner.
So after school, we go to his house and down to his bedroom.
"Do you believe in fate?" Harry questions, tapping his pen against his temple.
"No."
"Why not?"
"I think fate is a load of b.s. We have control over our lives."
