Chapter Five- Alone
I pick up my cell and dial Vee's number. I'm sure she will be the only one to come and help sneak me out of the house at 12 a.m. Nervously, I slip my converse on as I tilt my head to the side, to keep my ear on the phone.
"Hello?" she she answers.
"Hey, it's Lana."
"What's up?"
Before I have time to think this is a bad idea, I say, "Come get me."
"For what?" she sounds like she is talking with her mouth full of food.
"I'm bored and there's something I want to do."
"Will this something involve any law breaking, illegal substances and-"
"Yes."
"Then wait for me at the corner of your street."
"Gotcha." I hang up and slide my jean jacket on since it's chilly tonight. I stuff pillow cases under my comforter before unlocking my window and climbing onto the roof.
I close my window from the outside and hang on the gutter in a pull-up position before I let myself fall. I land on my shoulder, but it didn't hurt as much as I expected it to.
I begin jogging, suddenly afraid my parents will somehow wake up in the middle of the night searching for their daughter who is supposed to be sleeping in bed.
I spot Vee at the corner, standing under the streetlight and I relax, walking the rest of the way.
The first thing she says is, "So what's the plan for tonight?"
"First thing's first, I want a tattoo."
She smirks. "I might know a place where we can get one for free."
We finally stop walking and we are now standing in front of Harsh Needles Tattoo Shop.
The sign outside says 'Tattoos are only given to 18+' and I have no idea how we're going to get a tattoo here, let alone for free too.
I also have no idea why a tattoo shop is opened at almost one in the morning, but this one is. We walk in and Vee instantly runs up to this chubby guy that has a bright red mohawk and squeezes him into a tight hug.
"Dank, this is Lana. She's a friend and she wants a tat. Lana, this is Dank; my brother."
"Ah, and will you be paying me for tattin' up your friend here?"
She laughs throwing her head back. "Oh please don't be ridiculous, Dank. But I was thinking...."
"No. I told you already, no tattoos for you until you're-"
"I'm nineteen, Dank!"
"I don'currrr." he says and I laugh at the brother/sister relationship. "Have your friend come to the back and we can get started."
I follow Vee and Dank to the back room and I sit down on the leather chair.
"What do you want little lady? A heart? A smiley face?" At that, Vee smacks him upside the head.
"I want a quote."
"What will it be?"
"Strength; it's what comes from the madness we survive." Both Vee and Dank stay silent, staring at me blankly until I say, "What?"
"That's all you want?"
"Yes. Across the back of my right shoulder."
"Then let's get started. Turn around." Dank orders and I oblige. I can't believe I am about to get a tattoo. I lower my long sleeve shirt, but I'm instructed to take the entire piece of clothing off which leaves me in my sports bra. I feel uncomfortable, as exposed and undressed as I am especially when I see Vee's eyes widen slightly.
