Chapter 12- Realization

In two days, it's the reaping, I feel so sorry for Annie and Finn, Fin is the only male victors child, so he is definately going into the games, I'm going to visit them in a minute, "mom I'm going over to Annie and Finn's now" I call up the stairs, "Have you cleaned your room?" was the answer I got, I groan loudly, "yes"

"ok then, off you go" I shrug on a jacket and step into a pair of mom's old hunting boots, I pull a beanie down onto my head, I unlock the and walk out into the cold morning air, luckily it warms up a lot around midday so we don't have to get around it these heavy clothes all day, I walk swiftly towards Annie and Finn's house three doors down, breathing on my hands in an attempt to warm them up, by the time I get there I feel like a living snowman, "Forest! So nice to see you again! come in you must be freezing!" she invites me in and I step inside their warm house, instantly thawing out, "Finn's up in his room, I think he could use a friend, especially one going through the same things he is" says Annie keeping her eyes trained on the carpet, I can see the tears threatning to fall so I nod and make my way up the stairs, I knock twice on Finn's door and wait, "what" is the answer I get, "hey, it's me" I say poking my head round the door, "can I come in?" I ask, "whatever" says Finn, not looking up from the floor, I walk in and sit down on the bed next him, "wanna talk about it?" I ask, he shakes his head and a tear lands on his thigh, a sadness suddenly sweeps over me and I pull him to my chest, "he makes soft little sniffling sounds as he sobs, "it's not fair!" he cries, "they can't take us away from our families like this! it isn't fair, we haven't done anything to deserve this!" he carries on, I realise how much harder this must be for him because he definately has to go into the games, it suddenly hits me that there is a chance that Sonny might have to go into the games, I vow that if she gets chosen I will volenteer for her, but I get chosen she will most likely volenteer, but we will just have to cross that bridge when we come to it, after a few encouraging words I say goodbye to Annie and Finn and make my way home, as I'm walking I hear someone whisper my name, I turn and find no one, I run the rest of the way home and lock the door behind me, who was that?
