☫ Chapter 10 ☫
Grandma and Grandpa were watching the news.
This meant that I was quietly parading in the kitchen looking for something to eat. My eyes scanned the fridge with pursed lips. The house was dark and my grandparents had their eyes glued on the TV seeming entranced with whatever update Utah had to offer. I watched them with stilled eyes, blinking every now and then to adjust my vision. Wearing contacts wasn't as great as I hoped.
There were a two-week trial pair and honestly, I couldn't state my opinion on them just yet. I'd have to see what it's like to wear them while fighting. My body hid by the doorpost of the kitchen as my eyes flickered to the screen. With furrowed eyebrows, I listened.
"Well, we can't say for sure," a man spoke. "But it seems like our superhero, Dark Wonder, has gotten himself into trouble. We're unaware of where he is and the enforcement is working on the case as we speak. Here's the clip we've been sent."
I gulped when the video played. Dark Wonder was seated on a chair, his hands tied and head low. He had a cloth wrapped around his face, hiding his eyes. I nibbled on my lower lip and kept watching. There were lots of men surrounding him with grim grins. I could tell that they were on a roof, but I couldn't pinpoint the exact location.
"If you want your precious hero back then release Razor!" They barked with a knife to his neck.
My eyes did something weird as I scanned the area Dark Wonder was held captive in. Like a bird, I saw two things at once. One of my eyes were focusing on the background, picking up clues and signs. The other was examining his state, if he was alright. This eyesight was great and all but I still need my glasses to see it clearly. Otherwise, I'll just see double again. Like just the other day I saw two Dark Wonder's and it was very confusing. That gave me a push to try and get contacts.
I tiptoed to my room as silently as I possibly could, slowly shutting the door once I entered. Turning the computer on, I untangled the mouse wire and began typing up the small sign I saw just a moment ago. Old Tooele Hospital. I memorized the map on how to get there and scrunched my face up when I noticed how far it was. It's approximately an hour away. Will I even be able to get there in time?
Wait, I can fly. I'll probably get there in ten minutes if I do. But that would mean that I have to fly.
Attempting not to dwell on that thought too much, I slipped on the superhero costume. It was done in an unceremonious way and maybe a bit awkwardly but it's only my third time putting this thing on. Eventually, I will master it.

By the time I got there Dark Wonder somehow got himself out of the predicament and was fighting Razor's men off. His eyes were dark and stern, very frightening. He clenched his fists and scoffed at them. They all circled him while holding blades and other weapons, threatening him with just their grips on it. I flew to the scene and they all stopped and stared at me.
My cheeks reddened.
"And you are?" Dark Wonder asked while looking me over. I noticed the gang members in the back gazing at me with wide eyes and utter confusion. Dark Wonder crossed his arms over his chest and waited for an answer, his lips pursed and eyes narrowed with suspicion.
