☫ Chapter 12 ☫

In reality, we're both avoiding each other.

I'm pretty sure this was going on all day.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think anyone has come to the realization of it. Clutching on the straps of my bag, I hurriedly walked past Kelly, my head down and my feet fumbling. See, the theater was right next to where the cheerleading squad practices. And well, since I have to go to the Drama Club I'm sort of coerced to see Kelly and her friends.

Which was never necessarily a problem because I never actually paid them any attention. That was until just the other night where I had the privilege to spend some time with Kelly Palmer herself. Now I've decided that I'll completely ignore her. At least when I'm not tutoring her. I can't really ignore her if I'm supposed to teach her, right?

I scratched the base of my neck and nibbled on my lower lip. It appeared as if Kelly had the same idea as me. At the very same moment, we both discretely spared a glance at each other. We held eye contact for a second and once it vanished, we quickly turned our gazes elsewhere. I profusely refuse to do anything about this 'apparent' crush.

Not because it can never actually happen but because I don't want it to happen. However, the former isn't entirely irrelevant to the reasoning as well. Evidently, I thought this through. Maybe even lost some sleep but that's beside the point. The point which I've attempted to illustrate through my actions is that I'm not allowing these feelings to get in the way of what's important. Additionally, I don't want to make a fool out of myself.

As you can tell, there's not just one reason on why I'm not embarrassing myself and mustering up any courage to do something. I've created a list but that's somewhere in my room right now so I can't really quote it. Trust me, it has some substantial and fair points.

"Jeremiah," Raven announced my entrance with a grin as I sunk my feet onto the tiles, feeling a bit dazed with my thoughts. She made her way to me, her movement's confident and giddy. "You read the script, right?" Her smile became something more malicious as she fluttered her eyelashes at me in a threatening manner.

     I, in fact, did.

     Not.

"Of course," I lied right through my teeth. I brought my backpack to the floor and scanned the room for a script. With relief, I noticed one sprawled against a seat. I formed a plan as we walked onto the stage. I'll have to improvise and be resourceful. It might just work.

She tilted her head with her eyebrows raised. "Did you like it?"

"Did I like it?" I questioned back while trying to come up with a response. "Yes. Yes, I did."

"Great!" She clapped her hands together. "Before we do tryouts we're gonna do the warm-up."

She then called over everyone and with a wave of her hands, she formed a circle. Unsure of what to do, I stood next to Kyle. I blew my cheeks up curiously and tried figuring out what exactly was happening.

"I'm not in the mood to do what we usually do," Raven started. What do they usually do? I wondered and shifted my position slightly. "The Challenge is to make me laugh."

"Oh!" Kyle exclaimed with a raise of his hands as he walked to the center of the circle. "I got this."

Everyone smirked at him knowingly while I just watched with amusement.

"Why can't blondes count to 70?" He asked and then answered with a chuckle. "Because 69 is a bit of a mouthful."

I looked up at my blonde hair and then back at Kyle. I frowned and furrowed my eyebrows as a few students chuckled. Others only shook their head while muttering something about being immature. I didn't get the joke.
