☫ Chapter 23 ☫

Multitasking isn't just the difficulty of rubbing your belly and patting your head simultaneously.

There are other scenarios as well. More practical ones if you will. For example, doing your homework while changing the song every second because you can't concentrate after your favorite part has already been sung. And your favorite part is about two sentences or so. It's a strenuous task really. Or in a situation of life and death where you need to be at two places at once. Like those Disney films although that's less intense.

I definitely relate to the former but it's the latter that I'm currently struggling with.

"So is it good?" Finn echoed, inching closer to me as he spoke.

"Huh?" My eyes didn't stray from the window. "Y-yeah...yeah it's good." The sides of his paper crinkled under my clenching fingers as I kept my eyes towards the scene. I gulped down the nerves bubbling in my stomach.

"So good that you can't take your eyes off the paper," he joked, attempting to take the paper back from me. "What are you looking at?" He asked with a frown as he looked towards the direction of my gaze.

I blinked and turned to him with a sheepish smile, rubbing the base of my neck. "Heh, sorry about that. Just got a little distracted."

"By what?" Kelly addressed me with a raise of an eyebrow. She turned her head and looked out the window, her pony swaying back and forth during the action. "There's nothing there."

My eyes widened. What does she mean by that? I quickly looked back to see that she was right. The fire figure was nowhere in sight. Only sparks left in the dust of the pavement. I stood up impulsively, my hands on the desk.

Finn and Kelly shared a look of confusion. Their eyebrows drew together and eyes thin with uncertain suspicion.

I blushed, feeling embarrassed with the way I handled the predicament. I really need to figure out how to be a bit more inconspicuous. With a purse of my lips, I avoided their curious glances.

"B-bathroom," I stuttered out as an explanation and took my backpack off the floor, holding onto it tightly. I scratched my cheek as my face continued to heat up. "I n-need to go."

     So smooth, Jeremiah.

I didn't realize I started running until I was panting against the wall, completely out of breath in panic. I was in a secluded area of the school. The hall was vacant of people. This was the perfect spot. I pulled the intercom out of my pocket, clicking a button on it so I could call Dark Wonder.

"You've reached Dark Wonder, this is his amazing non-super sidekick who saves more people with just his looks, C.U.," Captain Underpants spoke in a cheeky manner. "May I ask who's calling?"

"Really?" I questioned him while quickly getting dressed. Or to put it more correctly, getting undressed. I leaned my head to my shoulder, pressing the earpiece on it for security. To be perfectly honest, I might not have put it in the right way and as you can see, I couldn't have it fall off at the moment. I slipped my pants off, somehow managing not to fall on my face completely. "Can you tell Dark Wonder to meet me at the Tutoring Center at—"

"At the preppy high school, right?" Captain Underpants filled in. It sounded like he was typing something. The clicking sounds ran through my ear in a static motion. "Yeah, the police have been notified about the strange fire thing which by the way is so cool but so unsafe so I'll let you do your thing."
