☫ Chapter 11 ☫

There was juggling.

Then there were school assignments. Then there were juggling school assignments. Do you see where I'm going with this? Well, then there was doing all that along with keeping up with things. Things such as: life and powers.

And so that's what I was doing. Juggling.

It was inevitable, really, that I slept through the blaring alarm of my clock. Following that up with an angry Jeff who aggressively shook me until I woke up. My eyes squinted at the blurry view of my seething brother. His eyebrows drew together in aggravation as he shoved his hands off me, knocking me back to bed.

"We're already late because of you!" He yelled and walked out, sending me a glare as he left the door open, almost in an avenging manner. I flinched and threw my sheet off me. I put on my glasses, mindlessly sparing a glance at the clock. My eyes widened and I became frantic over the realization of what the time was.

"Frick," I somewhat swore and jumped off my bed. "We're gonna be more than late."And we were.

Sure, I managed to get dressed and ready in under five minutes, mind you, I didn't really focus on my appearance rather I just foolishly hoped I looked presentable for school. Even though Jeff drove way over the speed limit and attempted to avoid morning traffic, it wasn't enough. Jeff made a point of showing his irritation throughout the entire ride.

In fact, he made me sit in the back. If I'm being perfectly honest, I don't understand why he's so upset. He ditches most of his classes anyway. And I already screwed up with the perfect attendance.

"Mr. Vincent," Mr. Carol announced with bitterness as I entered the classroom breathless. He gave me a pointed look when I dared to open my mouth. "I don't want to hear any excuses."

I frowned and felt myself cringe when I inched closer to him, reaching to the extent of desperation. "I have a valid reason for being late--" I started pathetically, in the process of persuading him not to give me a penalty for being late. I could not get a detention.

"Automatic ten point deduction, Jeremiah," he interrupted shortly and handed me papers.

     Ten point deduction for what?

With knitted eyebrows, I sighed and took it. I walked over to my seat slightly confused as to why I was holding some papers. My eyes bulged wide when I noticed what it was. Since when was there a test?! No. No. No. There wasn't a test scheduled for today.

We have a test on Wednesday and today is...what day is today?

     I nibbled on my lips.

The real question is not that though. It's obvious that today is Wednesday and that I'm going to have to deal with this. But how? Now that's something to stress about. Adding to the list is the dreadful fact that this test is double sided and has more than one paper. I raked my fingers through my hair and tapped my feet against the floor in fast motion. I took a breath in an attempt to compose myself.

I smiled slightly when I noticed the extra credit in the back that was worth ten points. Good. I can get back the ten points he's taking away as a consequence of me being late and then it will be like it never happened.

That's good. Now I have to see if I actually know anything.

"Sorry," someone apologized. I looked up and saw Jaxon going up to Mr. Carol. "Coach was talking to me," he said and I frowned knowingly.
