Derrick watched Jenny from where he sat. Watching her playing with that small gray kitten that she seemed to love so much while sitting on her bed in the apartment he knows she likes. "Jenny, my pet, is there anything you would like to do?"
"Go home?" The human snapped as her brown orbs turned and glared angrily into his own green ones.
"Jenny." He said in a warning tone, folding his arms over his chest. "I'm trying to be nice here. You saw how Max treated Sophie."
This made the teen pause. She most certainly did. And what she was wearing was far different than what Jenny was being allowed to wear. And Sophie was absolutely terrified of Max. So with a deep breath, she lowered her voice and softened her eyes. "Th-Then...please. Let me see my grandmother again."
"Now, I can't allow that," Derrick responded, walking over and looming in front of the mini apartment. He was close enough he could see tears beginning to well in her eyes and he hated that.
"B-But she needs me! D-Derrick, please." The teen pleaded, near sobbing as she stared into his giant green eyes. "Please."
Something in him told him it was a very bad idea. But the desperate look on Jenny's face made him give in and he turned his head away with a frown. "Fine. We'll go a little before lunch. I have to go shopping for your food anyway."
"Derrick...wh-why are you so nice, b-but Max was so mean?" She asked softly, using her hand to wipe the tears out of her own eyes. She was genuinely curious. It would seem like Calinthro's were supposed to be cruel, vicious beings.
"I told you before I love you," Derrick said softly, turning his head back towards her. "You mean absolutely everything to me, my dear. My pet. I chose you, you should feel honored. I can protect you better than any mortal man ever could. And I don't want the Jenny I know and love from Earth to fade away. I don't want you to become a mindless slave that bends to my every will, like Sophie, out of fear."
"But I am afraid! Y-You could do anything to hurt, torture, o-or kill me!" Jenny shouted, startling the kitten in her lap as tears once again started trailing down her cheeks. "I-I fear every time you pick me up! Dangling me hundreds of feet above the ground!"
"Jenny." Derrick curled his fingers around her body and lifted her up in front of his eyes. "I would never kill you. If anything I would only do what I do yesterday and scare you. because I don't want you to fear me so much, that you don't have your own thoughts." He leaned in, placing a very careful kiss on the top of her head.
Jenny could feel her face turn red but she didn't want him to see. She doesn't want anything to do with the man she thought she could trust. The one she thought was her friend. She can't believe his words, as they could just all be lies like before he drug her to the Underworld. So instead of responding, she ignored his words and silently cried into her hands.
Knowing he wasn't going to get a response out of the human, he lowered her back onto the shelf of the mini apartment. He could feel a slight anger bubbling in the pit of his stomach, but he has to fight it away.
Jenny and the kitten both jumped when a loud, animalistic roar echoed outside of the house and Derrick visibly tensed. "Jenny, stay put." He ordered firmly as he closed the door to the cabinet she was in and hurried down the steps.
He knew that sound. It was another type of demon. A horrible monster that feeds on the flesh of humans. Every being in the Underworld is giant unless they can control their size. Most demons, once they go to Earth change into the form of a human only until they return home.
Much to his dismay, he was right. As he stepped outside of his home, the large creature stood just nearby. It's body long and snakelike, with fangs that were at least twice the height Jenny was. Its claws were covered in dried blood as it slinked around, it's pitch black eyes now fixed on Derrick and it was growling menacingly. Warning him.
"You can warn me all you want, beast. But I'm warning you. If you come near my house, or my darling little pet, I will not hesitate to unleash every bit of power I have to make sure I turn you into nothing more but a pile of flesh and blood." Derrick hissed, his voice deepening and he could feel his own teeth shifting into fang-like points. He knew his eyes were the same glowing red with black pupils, just like Max's had been earlier but Jenny can't see him, so he didn't care.
The demon growled in response to the Calinthro's threat, making a swiping motion with its front arm as it's long tongue licked its lips hungrily. A sign it was preparing itself for a possible feast.
Derrick returned the growl, balling his hands into angry fists. Luckily, the creature didn't seem to want to fight just now and ran off into the dark. Unless you were a demon that belonged here, if you were to look around you could only see a few feet in front of you. The rest would be nothing but darkness and horrifying noises all around.
He remained silent and waited until he was sure he looked like a normal human before re-entering his home. He was certainly glad Jenny did not see any of that. That creature to any human would be terrifying, especially since it looked like a giant mix between a dragon, serpent, and some sort of other animal.
Before heading upstairs, he took a moment to rest and leaned against the wall with a deep frown on his lips. Now he had to worry about that thing going after Jenny. But somehow he has to protect her without her ever knowing of its existence. He would hate to make her panic and even more upset than she already is.
