"You guys still coming over for Christmas?" Drew questioned Skylar and Finn as she approached them. They were stood against a counter drinking their morning coffee in the kitchen, excluded from the others.
"Look who finally decided to turn up to work!" Skylar exclaimed.
Drew rolled her eyes before she raised her eyebrows and awaited their reply. "Of course we are." Finn answered.
"Who else would we spend it with?" Skylar tilted her head. "Perks of having us orphans as friends." She joked, referencing herself and Finn.
Finn gave a slight laugh, earning a glare from Drew. "That's not funny. It's totally inappropriate!" She scolded.
"Anyway, I need you to brief me, Sky. I never got time to look over the current case." Drew started to make herself a coffee but when she saw both Skylar and Finn give each other a look, she set down the tin of sugar on the counter. "What is it?" She demanded.
Finn was rather hesitant before he spoke up. "Well, you might be better off stepping down for this case, Drew." Skylar nodded in agreement.
"Hand me the file." Drew insisted. Grudgingly, Skylar reached behind her and handed the file over to Drew.
Her friends watched her as they saw her eyes turn rather wide. Drew clenched the file in her grip and tightened her jaw when she saw the name staring her in the face.
Mason White
~Flashback~
It's been a few months since her uncle was killed. Drew couldn't have felt much colder and distant from the world than she felt right now. To lose a father figure must have been one of the most painful things ever; which is why Drew decided to avenge his death. It was rather deliberate.
She was still haunted from the image of walking into the house that she once called home and seeing the front door slightly ajar, blood splattered against the passage wall. She knew what she was gonna see when she entered the living room so she stood there frozen in the porch until a passing neighbour approached.
So here she stood, bracing herself to walk through the doors. She knew what she'd be getting herself into and that there was no turning back once she stepped through.
A sudden rage gave her encouragement as she remembered how all the evidence had claimed who the killer was but it had been destroyed. How coincidental...
Her uncle had always risked his life and known the concequences of his job, as did Drew. It angered Drew to know he was killed unjustly and it became a personal vendetta to her. She decided to take up her uncle's line of work, hoping to close his case.
"You must be Drew. Agent Lancet's..." The man who had greeted her at the door seemed to be lost for a word.
"I guess you could say Sebastian was my father. Closest thing I had to one, anyway." She said, offering her hand.
The man shook her hand firmly. "I'm Michael, director of the agency." He was about to continue but when a certain someone caught his eye, he stopped and turned his attention towards her instead. "Agent Rose, come here."
He gestured towards the brown eyed beauty. Her hair was rather similar to Drew's and she had dark coloured locks falling perfectly into place. "I'm Skylar." She offered her hand, just as Drew did before.
"Agent Rose will be your partner, Miss Lancet so you should probably introduce yourself. She was your father's partner and is fairly new herself, but she's more than capable." Michael smiled and dismissed himself.
Skylar started to walk in a different direction, alongside Drew. As they walked, Skylar tried to make conversation.
"You should just call me Sky. It's nice to finally meet you, Drew." She went on to explain, "Your uncle always talked about you." Sensing Drew's reaction when she said the word uncle made her correct herself, "Sorry, would you prefer me to refer to him as your father? I just realised Michael did..."
Drew cut off her rambling. "No, you can refer to him however you wish. It's just kind of complicated." Drew explained.
They walk over a canopy, overlooking the canteen. Skylar comes to a halt and unlocks an office door. She steps inside and holds the door open for Drew.
"I sort of understand. I was abandoned by my parents and I've always been alone. At least you had your uncle." Skylar gives a sad smile and makes he way over to her desk.
"I'm sorry." Drew gives an apologetic look and stands awkwardly in the same position near the door.
A loud crashing sound startles both women and Drew reaches for handle to open the door. She's met with the sight of a young man on his knees, placing things back into a box. She decides to kneel down herself and help him.
When he looks up, Drew can see his piercing blue eyes and he runs a hand through his waxed blonde hair before offering it to her. He wears a wide grin on his face. "Hi, I'm Finn."
~Present Day~
"I'm going to make sure he gets caught this time. To hell with sitting out this case. If anyone's going to catch this son of a-" Finn gave her a glare, warning her to stop. He's never been one for swearing. "... Son of a gun, it's going to be me!" She continued.
"Okay, but let us help you." Skylar placed a hand on her friend's shoulder. "We're going to do this together."
Drew couldn't have been more thankful for the amazing friends she has in her life. It's probably the only thing that kept her holding on.
"Thank you for being there for me." Drew smiles at them both softly. "But, I'm giving the orders to find Mason White at all costs. We're going to gather as much evidence as we can on him to prove he's guilty."
Finn gives a nod. "And this time, I'll make sure myself that the evidence cannot be destroyed."
"I'm not going to let him hurt anyone else." Drew swore. "I won't let him take anyone else away from me."
