Closing up for the day

I sighed. It was a slow day at the library. With most of my co-workers gone, I was the only one left in the quiet room. It was a bit eerie. Sitting in silence, amongst the endless books and shelves. I didn't mind it though, the quiet was nice. It helped me think. I mean, that's pretty much all there was to do around this place anyways.

I looked around the quiet area, until my eyes wandered to the desk  in front of me. My gaze landed on a small bottle of pills sitting on the desk. It was almost empty, and I'd have to get a new prescription soon. I got sick once and a while.

Actually that's an understatement.

I got sick...a lot.

I mean, besides getting sick every once in a while, my life was pretty good at the moment. I worked in a nice enough place, I'd already paid off my debts from college, and I had a nice apartment. I didn't have many friends though. My only friends were the Schuyler sisters. Angelica, Peggy, and Eliza. I met them when I first started to work at the library. Angelica and Eliza weren't around very often, so the only one who really knew me was Peggy. Peggy and myself spent many days talking in the library, even after closing hours. But even she got busy sometimes. So I often found myself alone in this desolate place.

Not many people stopped at the library anymore anyways. No one came in today. I mean why would they? It was a Friday. Everyone was probably getting  drunk at a club or something.

Crowds weren't really my thing...also a lot of people in general.

I closed my eyes, and sat back in the chair I was sitting in. Sometimes the best thing to do was to close your eyes....and think.

Suddenly a door slammed behind me, pushing my out of my daze. Startled, I move to quickly and the chair from under me fell over. Next thing I knew I was on the ground, and it hurt. I turn my head to see Peggy stepping out of the abandoned conference room, that's rarely ever used, practically scolding the door.

" Darn this door!!" Peggy exclaimed. " Are you ok James?!" she squeaked as she saw me lying on the floor".

" I'm ok Peggy" I said, and smiled up at her. " You sure gave that door a good talking to, might I add" I joked. Peggy giggled and walked over to me, holding out her hand. I took it, and she helped me up. I tried to straighten up my disheveled clothing, and noticed Peggy's outfit. She had on a yellow dress that came down to her knees, and she was carrying a small clutch.

"Going out tonight?" I asked her. She looked very nice, I assumed she was going out with her girlfriend Maria, or maybe with a couple of friends.

" Yeah, I'm just heading out to a quick date with Maria. She should be picking me up soon". Peggy stated with a certain gleam in her eyes. Her and Maria had been in love for a year or so. Angelica didn't approve at first, but Eliza had been delighted to welcome Maria into their family. I smiled and took her hands.

" I'm happy for you Peggy. I hope you have fun tonight" I said, adding a wink to the end of the sentence. Peggy seemed to have gotten the hint.

" Jaaaaaaammmmessss!! Don't say that!!" she squealed, blushing red as a tomato.

Seriously, I didn't know someone could blush that much.

I chuckled along with her for a moment until we heard the door to the library open, as a little bell chimed throughout the room.

" Am I interrupting a moment here?" Maria joked, walking in.

" Hi Maria" I said and gave her a small wave.
