Chapter five
Liz showed me some pictures of this best friend after we leave the gas station, and oh my damn she is the most beautiful girl that I have ever seen. Also, her name is Ruthanna. Ruthanna Louise Harrison. It's not a name that I've ever heard before, but I love it. It's beautiful, just like she is.
From the information that I gather, she might have an anxiety attack. I'll just kiss her to make it better.
I'm immediately surprised the moment that thought enters my mind. What the heck is America doing to me??
Liz picked me up at this little hotel in their town that is called 'Holiday Inn'. We don't have those in Canada, but it is very nice.
She is a scary driver, but a good one and I get the sense that her mom is fairly nervous. Her mom who loves my music but isn't a fan. That's ok, she's like 35.
"Shawn, Ruth has been obsessed with you since Magcon,"
Liz says.
"Oh, wow. That was a long time ago."
"What's magcon?" Mrs.whatshername sounds both confused and a bit suspicious.
"Um, I'm not really sure mom. Shawn?"
So I explain what Magcon is and soon, we are at a big gray house. Liz's dad seems quiet and stern, and I feel bad for the first boy that she ever brings home. All of them actually.
We go up to her room with instructions to leave the door open, and liz fills me in on Ruthanna.
I learn that she is extremely awkward, annoying, and rude.
But also that she is incredibly strong, smart, and funny. She is honest, loyal, and wants the best out of life. She is a Christian and her dad passed away a few years ago.
"Also, she's your future wife. Shananna."
I choke on my own spit.
"Aye?"
She laughs.
"Just saying. Also, it's Shuh-nan-uh"
Something tells me that Ruthanna wouldn't be happy that this conversation just happened.
After spending time with Liz, I really enjoy her company. Her siblings are hilarious and her parents are really great. Although a little bit scary.
Whoever the Dean guy is that we bumped into the other night, he better not hurt her again or he'll have her parents and Shawn mendes himself to worry about.
Plus, story has it that Ruthanna kicked him in the balls. Feisty.
