Chapter twenty six

I hate myself for hurting him.
"We can't keep going on like this, Ruth,"
He tells me but I grab onto his arm refusing to let him go.
I won't ever be the one to make that mistake.
"Then we won't," I promise him, voice fierce.

With a surge of bravery I keep talking.
"Shawn, you wrote a song for me and it fixed everything so..I did the same for you.
Before we even met, but then liz told me what you said and I finished it. It all just came to me, and now I know how to sing it to you and I need you-want you-to know how much I love you. I can't explain it.

How did she break you heart,
How could she let you go?
If you were mine I would never let you go.
But I don't even know you.

She had you wrapped around her finger
She was your whole world, it was forever with her.
How did she let you go?
You were so in love with her, now she has another lover and I know it tore you apart.
How could she break your heart?
For I never could, although I don't know you.
But if I did I would enjoy every moment.
And if I was brave maybe I would say

Your green eyes pierce right through me,
Your smile sends shocks through my body.
If you need a shoulder, you know that I'm here baby.
I wanna know you, I wanna discover things about you.
I wanna know your favorite color, your best vice and I wanna give you advice.

You and your green eyes.

You put your soul into everything that you do,
You care more for others than you do you.
If we discovered everything which we have in common, maybe we could make this work and I know there will be fights but that's not uncommon.
I don't know you, but if I did I would cherish every perfect moment.
Ups and downs would be worth it for you.
If I was brave, I wish that I could say

You make me smile, you say you love my laugh; something that I haven't heard in awhile.

Cause now I know you, I love you so much that it hurts my heart.
I wish I was brave, to fix our fights.
To march up and say it right to your face, not caring what you will think.

I wish I was brave enough to face you.
But now I'm singing to you, here is a perfect chance, I will throw caution to the wind, shove all fears aside and say

As soon as I finish singing I look up at him, and become a little bit worried because he looks dazed.
Tears have frozen on his face and he looks shocked.
Stunned, I stare back. Was it really that bad?
I wonder.
We sit in silence for a minute.

"That was beautiful," he finally murmurs.
And before I know it we are embracing.
Hugging, kissing, saying I love you over and over because it's true.
We are made for eachother; soul makes, best friends, rain or shine. Forever.
And so I drift away with him on our peaceful, beautiful, perfect night.
And it's even better than I imagined it would be.
